Our stay at Maisonette Bougainvillea in Kalyves, Chania, was fantastic. Two families with a total of three kids, we felt at home from day one. Nikos, the owner, greeted us warmly and surprised us with a delicious homemade Cretan pie. The house was well-equipped, right down to toys for the kids and mosquito repellent. Nikos was always available and even warned us about bad weather. The location was ideal, a 7-minute walk to the beach and village. The neighborhood, with its scenic narrow roads, allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the ambiance and culture of living in a small, picturesque Cretan village. The real highlight was the terrace with its stunning views, perfect for enjoying wine in the evenings while the kids slept. Maisonette Bougainvillea is a must-book for a memorable family vacation.

The cottage was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The kitchen area has everything you need for home cooking: plenty of utensils, cutlery, cups and glasses, good size saucepans, colander, cheese grater, etc and a separate oven, halogen 4 ring hob, toaster and microwave. The slimline dishwasher was lovely to have. The washing machine was very useful too. The outside area upstairs was great for having breakfast and hanging out washing and or wet swimming costumes after a day at the beach. The master bed was extremely comfortable with a firm mattress, so a good night's sleep was had. There were duvets and a bed covers, which was handy as the temperature dropped at night (October when we visited). The shower had great pressure so was like a power shower. There is a separate toilet upstairs, which is always handy! There were plenty of towels. The location is fabulous, a minute walk from the main road, but extremely quiet, meaning a restful night. A couple of minutes to the beach where we also parked. Again, a couple of minutes walk from supermarkets, bakers, restaurants and butchers. The host, Yana, is phenomenal. Fabulous communication, friendly and helpful. Any help we needed, Yana, was quick to respond. Made us feel home from home. Highly recommend a stay at Julia's Cottage

We loved the villa, from the shaded private parking to the pool and the comfortable bedroom rooms - it was well equipped with everything we needed for a lovely 2 week stay. The description was spot on and the views from the top floor balcony were just amazing - a perfect spot for breakfast or a cheeky GnT in the evening. The location is fantastic, with a quirky interesting restaurant only a few minutes walk and the main town of Kalyves only a 15/20 minute walk or short drive away. To top it off the, the owner also owns the restaurant Galazio Kima on the beach where we were able to use the sunbeds and get a 10% discount in what was a favorite lunchtime restaurant - this was a real bonus.

We had a fabulous week. The views of mountains and sea are beautiful. The closest beach is nicest I think. Not as crowded and used more by locals. The pool is a great size. Everything is in the villa. We ate out most of the time though. Rooms are all good sized and all have nice view, and comfy beds and air con. The hill is quite steep but we were fine with that. The host was quick with replying and were really lovely, letting us have a later check out because of our flight time. Would definitely go back.
