    • One-Bedroom Villa
    • Stayed 3 nights

We stayed for 4 days / 3 nights in a charming, 2-floor, fully renovated out-building/cottage on the farm with lots of privacy and quiet and a terrace overlooking the vineyards and far-away hills (and delicious honey-like smells all-round!). The pool, which had great views of Peso da Regua and the Douro river, was near the main house, a short walk away through the vineyards, which was great fun (it's amazing how the vines grow clinging supports everywhere, that tightly wrap and harden around anything that can hold them up!). We arrived on the last day of the grape harvest and the gentleman who owned the property invited us to attend a celebration party he was holding for his 20 or so grape-pickers, with wine from the farm and local sausages and other foods. He then showed us round the wine-making areas and cellars and also parts of his historical family home, which was very special. On arrival, we received a bottle of wine and a generous basket of breakfast goods, including sun-ripened white figs from the farm that were a delight. Apart from this, the property is self-catering, but we did not mind as the kitchenette was equipped and the property is a short drive from town and restaurants and supermarkets. We also did not mind that the room was not tidied-up each day. We were not expecting a full-service property. We wanted a genuine rural setting, calm and serenity, great views and friendly people, and that's what we got! Thank you, Senhor Eduardo!
