Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaBit noisy facing the river, but location means right in the heart of tourist area and restaurant area, so should be tired and well fed by bedtime anyway.
Beautiful old building, quaint well functioning lift, great breakfast room and good breakfast.

CanadaThe hotel seems tired and in need of a “cosmetic lift” to revive it. Beautiful high ceilings in our room but the tub( and yeah for having a tub when son many hotels don’t these days) was looking old and stained . Shower curtains that blow in on one’s body during a shower is not a nice thing either. Bathroom needs updating. The bed was a double. I’d put in a queen and modernize the lighting and night stands to accommodate a larger bed. A mini fridge would’ve been appreciated too. There is no parking at the hotel so we had to leave the car nearby in a very tight spot which was of concern.
Proximity to historic area and Coimbra university was terrific and it was close to the river and restaurants. I liked the historic nature of the hotel itself. Even though I don’t like elevators it was definitely a treat to ride in such an old fashioned one. The honour bar was nice to have and staff were helpful.

United States of AmericaThe hotel needs updating but is in a perfect location. There are lots of restaurants near by and the University Library is a must see.
Our upgraded room was very spacious. The bed was comfy and the bathroom had a large bathtub. We were given a complimentary bottle of champagne and a dessert. The A-C worked very well and the room was sound proof. Breakfast was good. The front desk staff went above and beyond to assist us with our next reservation when I was unable to contact the host.

AustraliaParking was a bit of a challenge due to ongoing roadwork outside the hotel, but once that is complete I'm sure things will be much better.
Location was great for visiting central Coimbra and the university. The hotel is of the Grand Old Style, and breakfast reflected that, a delightful classical dining room and settings, great service. The toaster was a bit erratic - first slice came out white, the next brown, the third on fire - but that added to the charrm!

AustraliaIf I had to be picky, I’d say the shower head could have been larger.
It was great being able to stay in a 98 year old hotel. It was like stepping back in time once inside the hotel. The furniture is dated but what stories they must tell from days gone by. The beds were comfortable and the room was very spacious. The included breakfast was amazing too. Reception staff extremely friendly and helpful.

AustraliaWifi was unavailable in room but available in downstairs common spaces. Toiletries available but fairly basic.
We spent two nights here and found the location perfect. It was so close to amazing restaurants, bars, cafes and shopping malls. The view to the river was beautiful and fun to watch activity on the streets. Reception staff were friendly and helpful, nothing seemed like too much trouble and we enjoyed the candy available there! The atmosphere and decor of this old hotel was like stepping back in time to a bygone era. We felt privileged to experience such a treasure of Coimbra. The lift was a highlight and we laughed every time we used it, watching ourselves sitting on the leather clad bench. Our room was huge with plenty of space and a small reception room upon entering with high ceilings.

PortugalThis is an historic hotel which was a little tired in places it had a lovely feel to it. There was a comfortable lounge for the guests to relax in and breakfast was served in the dining room. The location was excellent, very close to the train station and to cafes and restaurants. The staff were helpful and friendly and made our stay very enjoyable.
