The hotel is admittedly old and tired.

An opportunity to stay in a historic grand old dame hotel. A treat to experience old world colonial charm, lap swim in a beautiful pool and enjoy an outstanding buffet breakfast.

Superbly renovated art deco hotel with interesting history. Attentive, kind and polite staff whose smiles make your day better. A credit to Acor hotels. Linen fresh and softest towels. Pool wonderful. Great location for street food, restaurants and evening stroll. Huge shopping complex a short walk. Divine gardens to relax in. High tea is wonderful listening to the fountains. Piano in lobby some evenings just perfect. Treat yourself!

    Nothing, it was just amazing.

Whoever has any sense for the impact of history on our current world will love this hotel. It is beautiful, well led, and also a living reminder of the complex shadow of the "long 19th Century" (including of its dubious features like colonialism). It was also the location of one of the most famous incidents (the "flag incident") on Indonesia's path to independency, so you will literally have a comfortable room in the middle of historical reminders. Its tranquil and lush gardens surrounded by the majestic hotel wings - and the occasional flying fox gliding through the vast open hotel corridors at night - have immense beauty. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there, also thanks to the very friendly personnel. Several nights before I had a room in another high-class hotel down the same street on the 20th floor, but the noise from Surabaya's busy streets there was considerable, whereas in the Majapahit it was comfortably quiet at night. I hope that this amazing hotel and historical monument will be kept as well as it is right now for a long future, and I will happily stay there again next time in Surabaya.

Pool, Spa and Gym area are a bit outdated. Need some refreshment and modernization. Around the chairs at the pool it looks messy: there are glasses and plates and used towels. No more guests around, staff could be more attentive on cleaning this up. Instead, they are chatting inside.

Heritage and location near to the old town with history. Also inside the hotel you can find many historical facts / pictures. Walking around gives you a feeling of the old Dutch colonial days in Surabaya. The rooms are classic and give that special heritage feeling. Nearby many nice places to eat / have a coffee. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. We had afternoon tea which was delicious. The tea could have been better, a bit plain (not made with fresh tea leaves, which you would have expected from a quality hotel like this and nearby tea plantations).

All was good although some may find it a bit dated if you want a modern hotel.

Good location a short walk to the Mall. Swimming pool was large enough to exercise in and swim lengths. Room was large and spacious. The hotel had a lovely olde world charm. We only stayed one night and they arranged our transfer to Malang.

I would have hoped for a more traditional choose of meals. The meals are very good! But coming from Sumatra they were not as spiced.

It is a historical building with a rich history. I hope it will be preserved for many decades to come.

We have already mentioned a few things that could be better, but it was not a problem for us.

From the first moment we stepped inside we knew that we had landed in a special place, the beautiful hotel Majapahit, Surabaya. What a grandeur when you look around the large hall, excellently furnished, with wood accents, beautiful sofas and armchairs and special paintings that take you back in time. A smooth check-in with indeed only a small suitcase, and no one behind the counter wondered where the rest of our luggage was. Unfortunately, it was left behind in Singapore and arrived two days later. The room was as expected, spacious, clean, with a balcony overlooking the beautiful North Garden, where we were also able to experience some parties up close. Breakfast is a mix of Asian and European at hotel Majapahit and is served buffet style in the Indigo Restaurant, it is beautiful. The operation and service are special, sometimes a bit subdued, but always correct. Some dishes could have been a little warmer, if a lid is left open it cools down quickly, but it didn't bother us, we took the time for our breakfast, talking to each other and looking out the window at the busy traffic. Except on Sundays when the vibrant Tunjungan road is closed from 6am to 9am to all traffic and pedestrians, cyclists and children have free rein, we were there twice early in the morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. Mr. Kahar Salamun, the general manager, was present every morning and checked with various guests what their feelings and ideas were, an excellent way to keep in touch with what was going on, including with the staff. He surprised us on our 6th anniversary of our marriage with a small present. On the menu we missed a good portion of sate ayam, but we got that elsewhere.

Difficulty crossing the road outside the hotel.

The staff were thoughtful and provided us with cake and anniversary decor. It made our wedding anniversary celebration memorable. Location was great but the crossing of road (like all roads in Surabaya) was difficult as the traffic was bad.

The pool could have a bar or some food service (one needs to cross the hotel to bring food and drinks to the pool). The tobacco smell in the lobby is very strong and odd in current times. I don't think it is allowed to smoke there, but it smells as if it was. Something could be done about it.

It is a beautiful hotel where one is transported to another moment in time (just like the pictures show). It provides more than just a stay, an experience (it is not modern but it has been modernized).
