Didn't really appreciate the tone of the check in manager who couldn't give us the keys before we pay. We were with our 2 yo daughter and quite a few bags, so additional delay after a long drive was a bit annoying.

Great location, wonderful view on Fourth Bridge. The room was very spacious and nice, bed was comfy and bathroom clean.

Dated carpeting on passage ways and our room. Awkward access to upstairs rooms especially with luggage. Trains across the Forth bridge did not bother us, but may to sensitive sleepers.

Picturesque location on the waterfront in a historical building. Huge room with sofa & comfortable leather seats. TV and tea maker in room.

A good location and comfortable room - wedding parties can affect the experience

    • Double or Twin Room with View
    • Stayed 2 nights

On a busy Saturday morning one member of staff appeared to be solely responsible for the breakfast service, and also for collecting payment for a wedding party and other guests. This was not the fault of the person serving but they definitely needed some backup when the wedding group decided they wanted breakfast serving upstairs in their rooms. Wedding parties are important for revenue but they are very demanding and tend to take over with multiple requests. They require some additional staffing so the experience of other guests is not compromised. Unfortunately the fabulous location attracts large numbers of 'cruising' cars to the waterfront parking area in the evening and into the night. Loud banging and popping exhausts are a constant noise as they arrive and depart on the road outside the hotel. This is not the fault of the hotel but something to be aware of if noise is an issue.

Great location with amazing view of the bridges. Large room (room 6) and a comfortable bed. Good off-road parking behind the hotel, especially good for motorcycles.

Nothing I'd change. There are regular trains going over the bridge which you'll hear and feel the vibrations. This didn't bother me at all but it might not be for everyone

My room was very comfortable, all mod cons were provided but with a homely feel and views over to the River Forth. I had dinner at the hotel with two friends. We each chose different things from the menu and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Nice surroundings and atmosphere in the restaurant. Portions are very generous! Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Shouuld feature Robert Louis Stevenson a bit more. The cruyise ships depositing huge numbers of people into the town (inevitable I guess).

History and engineering (the bridge) atmosphere, relaxing environment.

Lovely old hotel. We stayed one night after a late flight, the location was convenient as we were leaving for Inverness the following day. From our short stay the facilities were good. We enjoyed a drink in the bar which was a nice space. A bit of a rabbit warren to get to our room but it is a very old building.

We had an issue which has been regularly reported, having booked bed and breakfast on the booking.com site at checki in we were told quite abruptly by the receptionist that we had not! Fortunately having read many reviews which report this, I had printed off my booking.com screen at booking with which there is no argument !!! The receptionist blamed the booking.com site but I had no issues with it. How can a business hope to survive when the first contact with its customers is to call them a liar?? I thought it was innocent until proven guilty not the other way round!!! This did not spoil our stay but leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth!!!!

We booked the Hawes at Queensferry for special reasons and were not dissapointed. I made a mistake with my credit card information but the staff at reservations were curtious and helpful and it was sorted out very quickly.the hotel is actually a row of converted cottages and the character and charm of each cottage has been skillfully maintained within the hotel. Food was excellent, breakfast incredible!

Member of staff approached re having a drink on arrival was very off hand and unfriendly. Wouldn't let us sit in bar meal area although it was quiet. Restaurant area looks very good but bar meal area has lost it's all it's quirky character and has lost all it's history. Very disappointing. Food for bar supper was disappointing. Member of staff doing breakfast was very rigid - no flexibility re choices. Had to argue to get scrambled egg and bacon. Not in a rush to come back, unfortunately.

We've stayed lots of times previously and love the location. Staff member checking us in was excellent - so helpful and friendly. Family room has been upgraded and was excellent. Much improved with nice sofa and also a nice sitting area. Comfortable bed and pillows. Bathroom and shower are much better.

The addition of a main light would be good. The moody side lights were a bit too dark when packing up.

Not being able to have our room until after 3pm. It wasn't mentioned when we booked.also it would be nice to be able to select your room before booking. As th room we were allocated was below ground level !! We were able to change rooms though. If the hotel was fully occupied we would have made alternative plans.

Breakfast was poor and over priced and also not included in the £140 per night price. No fruit on the buffet nor muesli, no nice breads or croissants etc which would be expected for the price. There were only coco pops and cornflakes ! They need to up their game on this. The cooked breakfast was OK if not amazing.

We had a room with a view of the bridges and the Firth of Forth which was fabulous- worth asking for a room with view as back rooms don't look as good. Room spacious and clean. Bathroom extras poor for the price however. Bar is cosy.
