Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaShouuld feature Robert Louis Stevenson a bit more. The cruyise ships depositing huge numbers of people into the town (inevitable I guess).

Lovely old hotel. We stayed one night after a late flight, the location was convenient as we were leaving for Inverness the following day. From our short stay the facilities were good. We enjoyed a drink in the bar which was a nice space. A bit of a rabbit warren to get to our room but it is a very old building.

United KingdomWe had an issue which has been regularly reported, having booked bed and breakfast on the booking.com site at checki in we were told quite abruptly by the receptionist that we had not! Fortunately having read many reviews which report this, I had printed off my booking.com screen at booking with which there is no argument !!! The receptionist blamed the booking.com site but I had no issues with it. How can a business hope to survive when the first contact with its customers is to call them a liar?? I thought it was innocent until proven guilty not the other way round!!! This did not spoil our stay but leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth!!!!
We booked the Hawes at Queensferry for special reasons and were not dissapointed. I made a mistake with my credit card information but the staff at reservations were curtious and helpful and it was sorted out very quickly.the hotel is actually a row of converted cottages and the character and charm of each cottage has been skillfully maintained within the hotel. Food was excellent, breakfast incredible!

United KingdomMember of staff approached re having a drink on arrival was very off hand and unfriendly. Wouldn't let us sit in bar meal area although it was quiet. Restaurant area looks very good but bar meal area has lost it's all it's quirky character and has lost all it's history. Very disappointing. Food for bar supper was disappointing. Member of staff doing breakfast was very rigid - no flexibility re choices. Had to argue to get scrambled egg and bacon. Not in a rush to come back, unfortunately.
We've stayed lots of times previously and love the location. Staff member checking us in was excellent - so helpful and friendly. Family room has been upgraded and was excellent. Much improved with nice sofa and also a nice sitting area. Comfortable bed and pillows. Bathroom and shower are much better.

AustraliaThe addition of a main light would be good. The moody side lights were a bit too dark when packing up.

United KingdomNot being able to have our room until after 3pm. It wasn't mentioned when we booked.also it would be nice to be able to select your room before booking. As th room we were allocated was below ground level !! We were able to change rooms though. If the hotel was fully occupied we would have made alternative plans.

United KingdomBreakfast was poor and over priced and also not included in the £140 per night price. No fruit on the buffet nor muesli, no nice breads or croissants etc which would be expected for the price. There were only coco pops and cornflakes ! They need to up their game on this. The cooked breakfast was OK if not amazing.
We had a room with a view of the bridges and the Firth of Forth which was fabulous- worth asking for a room with view as back rooms don't look as good. Room spacious and clean. Bathroom extras poor for the price however. Bar is cosy.

United KingdomOur room was on the ground floor of the hotel and immediately outside motorbikes were continually coming and going right outside. They were also across the road at sea wall too. The noise was very annoying. The noise continued until after 7 pm. Normal for a Sunday apparently. Small dedicated point for getting key and checking in, just end of the bar and attracting someone’s attention.
Great location for local walks and for short drives to scenic villages etc.
