Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaThe room was cramped. There were lockers but the storage crates for the suitcases were awkward and inconvenient. Some pegs would have been good. The front desk staff person at night time was a man. He was very nice. I just think that people should be aware of that so that they can dress accordingly. For example a woman was about to go into the communal area in her short night clothes and jumped back when she saw him.
All cities should have at least one women's only hostel. What a great idea. I liked the donated food bins. Great location just one stop from Liverpool station. Lots of stores near by. Safe area.

United KingdomOne morning there was a lady from Malaysia asking about the policy for a refund should she shorten her trip. She was not complaining, but enquiring, however she was using the word "plan" instead of "policy" as she was conducting the entire conversion English, not her first language. The person on reception ended up getting a bit short with her, and made no effort to slow their speech or use different terms. It was purely a question of language, and the guest making the enquiry was doing everything she could to explain herself, in what was actually very good English considering her own language is not even remotely connected in terms of roots.. I feel better training could be provided regarding guests whose first language is not English, just in terms of adjusting the way staff phrase things rather than getting frustrated, as it is going to be a common occurrence in a hostel that guests are from different countries and don't always speak English as well as the particular guest in question here. The person on reception was actually very polite and helpful to me personally, so I do think it's just a question of training (and ever so slightly, attitude). I was able to understand what the guest was enquiring about a long time before it was finally resolved, she was simply using one word differently, but with a little working out, friendly and effective communication is possible, especially when the guest in question is actually speaking English to a good level.
Staff were friendly, efficient and helpful to me, the place is always clean, cooking facilities are good and there are plenty of good, hot showers. Beds comfy.

I love Hostelle London. It's central located and it is a nice place to stay and rest after strolling through London all day. The beds are comfortable and the curtains give you all the privacy you need.

Staff really nice and helpful. Kitchen and lounge OK area. Located close to bethnal green tube. Felt like a safe area. Great that beds had curtains.

United KingdomOnly a couple of toilets on each floor, ended up queuing several times. Some toilet seats were loose.
Very nice hostel, you can see that a lot of thought has gone into the design. Particularly liked the curtains on the bunk beds to give you privacy. Was grateful that my request for a bunk bed was met. For such a busy hostel it was relatively clean.

DenmarkThere was an issue with my door and it took over 30 min late at night for me to get into the room and the night porter was perhaps not as knowledgeable as he could have been. He insisted the door had been locked from the inside, but there is no lock on the inside. The other people in the room clearly knew as they kept the door open with personal items. In other words, the problem was ongoing. I think the hostel could be faster with repairs. Also please quickly train your night staff at printing invoices - can't be that complicated :)
I've come here several times. It's very clean, the beds are comfortable and you get your privacy by the curtains by each bed. It's very safe here too.

GermanyThe atmosphere was friendly and cozy. I liked it that the beds had curtains wich you could close to have some privacy. The staff was also very nice. Although they didn’t serve any breakfast, they had a kitchen where you could make your own meals wich I liked. The location is perfect close to the underground station (Bethnal Green) and the Brick lane. I would definitely book to stay at this place again next time I’ll be visiting London.

MaltaYou cannot sit on the bed or else you will bump your head on the 2nd deck. It's really small (the space) but all good if you just lay down and stay there for a night just to sleep. The bathroom is okay. I just don't like the molds in the ceiling in the toilet and shower for Room 3-4. It smells and looks dirty. I'm not sure if the bed cover is being replaced, there's hair strands and particle thingy in my bed when I arrive.
It is near the station. 30 mins away from the center. Good if you're just staying for a night. It felt safer because all girls.

IrelandWe didn’t know that towels were not provided during the stay so we had to pay for use of towels. It would be good to let the guests know before booking so they can plan ahead. But still it didn’t cost much.
The location is perfect, near to tube station and bus stops. The staff are very approachable. This was my first time staying at a hostel. And it was a great experience. Everybody was respectful and was mindful of other people. Check-in was fast and easy.

United KingdomI didn't like being on the top bunk and being faced with a notice that the bed could not be changed after arrival! I've had hip surgery and struggle with ladder climbing. I also didn't like the fact that the bedroom light do not actually go full out, so if you're in a top bunk, like I was, you have spot lights shining on you all night. This isn't necessary as each bed has its own reading light anyway (and we all have phones with torches). Having to put in a 7 digit code every single time you wanted to enter your room, even adter going to the toilet during the night was a major bug bear, even though the room is behind the staff area and even though there are lockable crates under the beds and even though it's a female only hostel. Just seemed like security overkill to me. I'm glad they finally put soap and air freshener in the toilets before I left. The air freshener spray just soaked the place though... But these are tiny things. The staff do a fantastic job and the hostel is great.
The hostel is less than a 5 minute walk from Bethnal Green Tube station and the V&A museum there. You walk into the communal area and you can access this area before the 2pm check-in time. Free tea and coffee (but no milk) is provided. There is a double, American style fridge, a microwave, 1 cooker with 4 hot plate rings, a grill and panini machine for use by all guests. There are USB and electric charging points in this area, tables and chairs and a sofa with TV. At 2pm, you are allocated to your room. I chose the cheapest room which was 16 bunks on the ground floor (room 6). The room was air conditioned cool on arrival. The beds all had privacy curtains and metal wire storage containers under the bunks (1 storage crate per person. These take up half a single bed size so are approx 3ft x 2ft x 1ft high. They close with a clasp and I had my own luggage padlock with me which I used on the clasp. You can buy a lock from the hostel or at a nearby store. The hostel is sandwiched between 2 bars/pubs and is right by the railway Bridge and on a busy road/street so expect some external noise in Central London! This wasn't an issue for me in bed. There was another room adjacent ours on the ground floor that had 4 or 6 beds, so at least 20 people at full capacity on the ground floor who will be sharing only 2 toilets on that floor. There are 4 showers on the floor, but only 2 were working when I stayed. This should have been an issue, but in fact, I never had to queue at any time for a shower or the toilet. The room facilities state there is a hairdryer, but in fact there is only a wall mounted hand drier in the shower room. On arrival for the first day and a bit, there was no handsoap in the toilets or shower area and no air freshener in the toilets. There is no bin next to the sinks in the toilet area. The toilet brush holders are rusty and could be doing with being replaced. The toilet seats were both loose. The staff were very efficient.

United States of AmericaCheck-in was too brief. I was not advised on towels, locks or flip-flops. I was just told what bed I was in and pointed to the door. The Refrigerator needs twice as many shelves or a much better organization system.
The location is great. And there is a large kitchen area, so it's easy to save money by making your own food. Just beware that the Iceland grocery store has tricky hours. there is a nice vanity area in the shared bathrooms to fix hair and makeup.

United States of AmericaThe facilities need a bit of repair. It seemed their pipes were leaking and they had towels sopping up the water. Overall no complaints though for the price.
The staff were lovely. They were kind and very willing to help with any questions we had. The social events were a great way to meet the other ladies, and the terrace was a nice place to sit and enjoy the outdoor air. The underground is nearby, and there are a few nice little restaurants around as well.

AustraliaThe room storage was poor. Baskets under the beds were difficult to get to in some situations almost impossible. Not everyone had a locker. A stool in the room (I was in a 6 bed) would have been handy along with hooks on the walls for hanging coats, towels etc. The bunks moved alot and were noisy.
Convenience if location. Only female hostel. Friendly staff. Great kitchen and shared common area.

GermanyThe shower and toilet stalls were next to each other so the water from the showers would flow into the toilet and made the floor wet and inconvenient to navigate. The stairs are pretty narrow and there is no elevator so keep that in mind when bringing in a big luggage. In my room, my bed was positioned in a way that there wasn't enough space for me to open the storage trunk properly to keep my things so I had to mostly keep it outside.
I really appreciated the location - it was right across the bus stop where the National Express dropped me off (from Stanstead airport) which was great since I arrived late at night. The nearest tube station was 2 min walk away so well connected to the rest of the city. Brick Lane and Shoreditch are an easy walk away. Many supermarkets and coffee shops within walking distance as well. The kitchen was very well equipped which was helpful. The fridge also had a shelf for free food which I was grateful for. The reception staff is warm, friendly, and super helpful. The desk is open 24x7 so also never a problem to check-in late.

United KingdomThe night time receptionist guy was pretty unnecessarily blunt and not particularly helpful, instead of giving wrong info he should just say that ask the daytime staff if needed. If you are noise sensitive (I am not), note that the location of the hostel is along a main road, next to a pub and the tube, you will hear noise from them, but then again that is London. Common area is fairly small, but its an old building, and nothing major.
Good location next to Bethnal green, direct bus from Stansted available throughout the night. Friendly daytime staff. Overall a very good stay in a hostel. I recommend the six bed room for space. Ask for a bottom bunk if you are mobility impaired. Good privacy with a curtain. Comfortable bed, would go back if needed.
