Originally built in 1889, the heritage-listed Okoroire Hot Springs Hotel features an onsite hot spring bath, a 9-hole golf course and a tennis court. What a fantastic surprise this stay ended up being. We booked it during our travels for a quick place to stop at after visiting Hobbiton and on our way to Auckland without expecting much. However, the old world charm, the excellently maintained hot springs, and the delicious dinner were all great surprises.

It was lovely to have breakfast sorted in the morning. Carmen thoughtfully left a loaf of freshly made bread on the bench and treats in the fridge. The house was amazing, everything you need for a quick get away. And the bed was super comfy.

The host went the extra mile to make the stay brilliant. Little surprise on arrival that they certainly don't need to provide.

Lake Karapiro Lodge offers views of the surrounding countryside and lake. Gourmet breakfast is included. Facilities include free WiFi, an outdoor swimming pool, hot tub and sauna. The views, the hosts, the breakfast; everything was simply amazing. This is a very unique place, managed by amazing people. Definitely worth a visit!

Set in Putaruru and only 46 km from Zorb Rotorua, Maple Retreat by Blue Spring offers accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. This guest house features a garden. Thank you for the hospitality. Very restful to sit outside and watch the local wildlife in the reserve, birds coming in to roost for the night, local moggies, and even a kingfisher! All the best :-)
