We were unable to use our Visa card in many restaurants. It was not because of any problem at our end but it seems that the technology to read the card is incompatible with many machines. This plus very high fees to convert money made enjoying ourselves more challenging. The traffic congestion and pedestrian unfriendly streets made walking in Guatemala City a challenge.
Guatemala es un lugar mágico, lleno de mucha cultura, orden y sobre todo gente muy atenta. Volcanes y lagos por todo lado dan vistas espectaculares.
Guatemala exceeded my expectations. The hiking was amazing. I especially liked the city of Xela and the surrounding villages. The people were very friendly and helpful. I can’t wait to go back.
Guatemala is a Beautiful country, I suggest to the local government that they put more money towards cleaning it up and making transit a priority. Behind all the broken concrete & garbage is a Beautiful country bursting with character and Lovely people .. clean up your country as your Blessed to live in such a wonderful & Beautiful place !
Guatemala is a beautiful country. There’s a lot to see and do, unfortunately a lot of the activities are spread out! I did a lot of bus travelling and the roads aren’t great. Plus everything runs on Guatemalan time which can be hours more or even less! The food is nice and simple and the people are very friendly. Not a lot of English is spoken so helpful to know some Spanish.
We had only planned for two weeks in Antigua for the purpose of taking lessons in Spanish which incidentally were great. We made a few side trips in the afternoons and on the weekend. Sadly we did not have time to visit other places in Guatemala. We would definitely like to return as even within Antigua, there were places we were unable to get to.
The people of Guatemala are so friendly and warm. We travelled all over the country and were amazed at how different all the areas were. Had amazing trip which included Guatemala City, Antigua, Lake Atitlan Panajachel, Lanquin, Semuc Champey.
This is a gloriously beautiful country but painfully poor and blighted by sadly large amounts of garbage. I spent a month mainly in the Lake Atitlan area which is quite rural and touristy, totally different from Guatemala City. I never tired of the beautiful traditional clothing on the women, but I did get weary of the constant urge to buy touristy wares and became quite suspect of the “I made this myself” line when I saw so many places selling exactly the same things. I never got comfortable with the need to bargain on prices. That said, if you want to buy fabric, this place is heaven. I took some Spanish classes at a great local school, Jabel Tinamet (which I highly recommend). The local people friendly and wonderfully patient with my poor Spanish and slightly amused at my efforts to use it! Panajachel is a great base from which to explore by easy boat rides the numerous lake communities. Tuktuks are available and cheap but if you mostly walk, as I did, always keep an eye out the dog poop! Dogs wander everywhere but are the least aggressive dogs I’ve ever seen. This is not a destination for foodies. Traditional Guatemalan food is very bland with little seasoning and there is a curious local affection for pizza and pasta. It is also not a good travel choice for anyone with walking difficulties as, with the exception of Panajachel, all the communities are built on quite steep slopes so one is always walking either up or down.
Antigua is a must to go place. You don't need to go there very early in the morning as moat of the places there open late except for the museums. Day and night scenes are different and if pissible stay and walk around there for at least 4 hours to give it a quick tour. I love Antigua and i visited there twice during my trip in Guatemala. But please have more cash handy if you are insterested in puchasing souvenirs from street vendors.
Guatemala City is definitely not candy for the eye. I came here knowing this but expected to find that the city would have some soul or some liveliness - doesnt really have either. The Parque Central in zona 1 has some interesting sights and zona 10 might be interesting if you want to see shopping malls.
The staff was great and this Hotel has everything you need, especially if you are arriving in Guatemala late at the airport this will be you best option, because you can have a lot of variety of restaurants around and it's also super safe but I love the rooms super comfy and also the designs of the bathrooms everything was perfect, I also used the gym and they have the right equipment for a nice workout, they have one of the best balconies with the view to the hole GT City so everything was perfect, I will stay there again for sure.
Zona 10, Guatemala
I had an excellent experience at Reforma Hostel. First, both staff that I interacted with were kind, friendly, and accommodating. Second, the facilities were fantastic- comfortable bed, hot showers, and clean atmosphere. I especially appreciate the extra touches in the dorm, such as curtains for privacy, reading lamps, and lockers. The breakfast was simple but pleasant. Overall, this is excellent value and I highly recommend it to any travelers passing through or exploring Guatemala City.
The rooms are new and big, the hotel’s facilities are good and well maintained. The restaurant is fine and the breakfast is great. The location is perfect as Zone 10 seems quite safe and there is a very good shopping center just next to the hotel (accessible by the main entrance) and with a lot of different good restaurants options. If you need to move around Guatemala City or you need to arrange business trips you can arrange everything through the front desk (highly recommended).
Zona 13, Guatemala
I stayed multiple times in this place. Certainly Mariana's Petit Hotel is my home away home. Thanks to owners Fernando and Jeannett for their exceptional hospitality. Wonderful staff, Ofelia and Mildred made me happy with great breakfast and kind services. Free shuttle service is awesome and makes it so easy in and out of the airport. This is the jewel of Guatemala City with a great value. I don't need anywhere else.
Zona 1, Guatemala
Cindy is a great host. She assisted and supported my trip very well. She arranged an airport pickup, but unfortunately my ride had an issue during the pickup, then immediately she arranged an alternative ride to pick me up from airport. Beyond that, she also assisted me in site seeing Guatemala City as well and then arranged a transportation to my next destination, Antigua. She is so exceptional.
Zona 4, Guatemala
I liked that it had a kitchen where you could cook and loved the terrace too. We had a private bathroom and that was great too. The location was good and the staff super friendly. If you’re passing by Guatemala City, it’s worth staying here. We felt super comfortable. Also there are some bars and terraces just across the street and a supermarket. It’s close to the airport as well.
Zona 13, Guatemala
We stayed for one night before our flight home. Yvonne was very helpful driving us to the museum and then to the airport the next day. She also prepared us a simple supper which she didn't want to charge us for and a good breakfast. If we travel to Guatemala again we would love to stay here again and to catch up on gossip about the British Royal Family!
We had a one night stay in Barcelo while transiting through Guatemala City. The hotel was larger than expected, and comfortable. We were going to visit a local restaurant about 7-10 minutes walk away, but were advised against it on safety grounds. So instead we ate the in their onsite Strikers restaurant which was surprisingly good food and good value.
The location was perfect, smack in the middle of "zona viva" (zone 10) in Guatemala city. Despite ongoing remodeling, the property was immaculate and has very convenient access to the luxurious Camino Real (also Marriott) where all the amenities that Biltmore lacks can be found. Very good breakfast!
Zona 13, Guatemala
Great place! Very cozy and cute decor. Staff is very nice and helpful. They don't speak much english, but I still got by. If you're transferring from Guatemala City to Antigua or Lake Atitlan, they can pick you up or drop you back off at the airport. Breakfast was also great.
Friendly staff, fantastic breakfast, easy transportation to La Aurora. If you have a morning or evening flight out of Guatemala City, this is a fantastic option for the night before or after. I've stayed here 3 times and will do so again whenever I come to Guatemala.
Zona 7, Guatemala
I really liked the location, it was in a nice part of Guatemala City with shops and restaurants close by and easy to get to and from the airport. It felt very safe in this zone. The flat was clean and the owner was very helpful. I would highly recommend staying here.
Zona 10, Guatemala
The location was great. The value was great. The staff was friendly and the room was clean. I loved that there were easy access electric outlets, sometimes that can be hard to find in Guatemala. I also loved that the toilet and sink were separate from the shower.
Zona 13, Guatemala
Super close to the airport, lovely people working at and running the place. Very convenient if you have a short stopover in Guatemala City, transport from and to the airport is included which is awesome. Lionel was super helpful and overall people were very kind.
Zona 10, Guatemala
The best location in zona 10 of Guatemala City, very close to a lot of restaurants and malls. We asked to the host a few appliances that were not in the apartment and the host immediately provided it to us. Easy communication with the host and fast response.
- Super helpful staff. Our luggage didn't arrive on our flight and they called the airport countless times. Staff is incredible! - Breakfast terrace is very nice and food super good - Location is great! Zona 10 is the place to stay in Guatemala City
The exceptional staff at Good Hotel Guatemala made my stay memorable. The room's thoughtful arrangement and the incredibly comfortable beds exceeded my expectations. A truly top-notch experience that I highly recommend to fellow travelers.
all top notch at a very good location. Zone 10 is good for dining and close to the airport, Wyndham in Guatemala is not the cheapest option, but also not the most expensive and by far better than other Wyndhams I have stayed at in the US
Zona 4, Guatemala
This is a very upscale, well equipped apartment at a reasonable price, and a superb location for enjoying everything Guatemala City has to offer. Zone 4's excellent dining and shopping opportunities are right across the street.
Zona 13, Guatemala
Extremely convenient for airport.. stayed here on 2 occasions following flights into GUA .. great transfer to & from airport by the hostel.. decent breakfast too.. id have no issue staying here if I ever returned to Guatemala
