San Antonio in Texas is home to 2 of the state’s top attractions: The Alamo and the Riverwalk. One of the city’s former Spanish missions, the Alamo was the site of a deadly battle that cost folk hero Davy Crockett his life. The other remaining missions - Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan, and Espada with its aqueduct - are dotted around the city. The attractive Spanish Governor’s Palace also remains.
The San Antonio River runs right through the city, below street level. Known as the Riverwalk, its banks have been cleverly developed to house riverfront restaurants, bars and shops, and are spectacularly lit for Christmas. There are several San Antonio hotels by the Riverwalk which are also close to the Rivercenter Mall, the city’s biggest shopping center, while La Villita artisan village has more traditional crafts.
Across the road in Hemisfair is the Tower of the Americas, a tall observation tower with a revolving restaurant overlooking the Alamodome, a huge sports and convention venue, home to the annual Alamo Bowl collegiate football game. Booking.com has several San Antonio hotels near the Alamodome, and more accommodations near San Antonio Airport.
On the outskirts of the city are Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. The city also hosts the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the country’s biggest Western events.

We were only in San Antonio for two days, mainly to support a relative at Lackland AFB. There's a lot to do in San Antonio (experience from previous visits). The city has "aged", with a ton of highway/street construction that is irritating but expected with growth and updates. Using your GPS is really essential to find your destinations.

Definitely do the mission walk.
Definitely do the mission walk. Go down the river, on a bike if possible, and hit every mission. They are gorgeous and so is the river.
Riverwalk is okay, but very commercialized. It's not relaxing or enchanting. A little chaotic and corporate.
The art museum is excellent. Botanical garden is good too.
Food is great!
3 days will give you plenty of time to see everything.

We loved the River Walk and went almost everywhere using it.
We loved the River Walk and went almost everywhere using it. The Museum of Art is fantastic-so is the restaurant there- Tre Trattoria. The Pearl is a fun spot especially on the weekends when the outdoor vendors are there. Ladino Restaurant was our favorite meal. The river tour was fun too, and you can also catch a shuttle on the river.
There are lots of breweries. My favorite was Roadmap, and Back Unturned was good too with great pizza.

For this trip to San Antonio (eclipse day pass was booked at the Adega Vinho Winery) I primarily limited my adventures to the Rivewalk area with a haunted pub crawl and a tour of 4 Spanish Missions. The Hotel Contessa was right on the river walk path and within walking distance either down along the river, or at street level. Three nights was about right, although I should have allowed time for a dip in the rooftop heated pool.

Restaurants on RW were just ok..nothing special.
Restaurants on RW were just ok..nothing special. Everywhere we went the wait staff was too few. I don't recommend Mia Terra at historic market.
I do recommend Guenter House and pioneer flour mills.
Location! Location! Location! Right on the Riverwalk with easy access to so many things. Breakfast area looked over the Riverwalk which was an added bonus. The breakfast staff were so kind and friendly, they even provided suggestions for activities in San Antonio.
Our suite had a full fridge so we were able to keep our snacks and beverages cold. The freezer even had an icemaker - thus no walking the halls to find one. The valet was a convenient parking experience.
Beautiful hotel less than 5 minute walk to the Alamo, and 8 minutes from the Riverwalk! Small but cozy rooms with very comfortable beds. Amanda at the front desk made my family feel so welcome from the moment we walked in the beautiful lobby! Amanda really impressed us with her kindness and attitude throughout our entire stay!! We were so happy we found this wonderful hotel in such a perfect location. Highly recommended for visitors that want to explore San Antonio!!
The hotel was good with special touches that make a difference. The room and bathroom were spacious & very comfortable. Each day snacks were provided in reception, and coffee in the morning and water and beer in the evening. Snacks were delicious olives, cheese & bread, also fruit. The location was exceptionally close to the Riverwalk and other attractions, and also close to public transport. A great breakfast was included. The staff were willing and helpful.
This was our first time staying at a Drury hotel. We found the hotel to be exceptionally clean. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The hot breakfast was both plentiful and tasty. Their evening cocktail social with complementary alcoholic beverages and hourderves was a pleasant surprise. The location right on the Riverwalk was wonderful. Overall a great stay. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Fab location for visiting downtown San Antonio. Very close to The Alamo and to the river. Recommend walking along the river the The Pearl Brewery (about 1½ miles). The river walk is fabulous with some great bars an restaurants very close to the hotel.
Breakfast was great (except cereals, see below). Lovely mushroom & cheese omelette and plenty of bacon

We really enjoyed our stay at the Canopy hotel. Rooms were well appointed and beds were very comfortable. Loved the cement floors & closet/luggage space.
Location was perfect!
Right on the riverwalk, near many restaurants & attractions.
Hotel bar was beautiful especially at night.
The hotel is beautiful! The water area is gorgeous. Plenty of sitting areas in spacious lobby and bars area. Yes, multiple bars! And the complementary margarita with check was the best we had all weekend. Hotel Valencia is niw my favorite San Antonio oasis!
We try to come atleast once a year to the drury downtown SA . We love it . Service always exceeds expectations, along with cleanliness. We love the kickback & hot breakfast . As well as rooftop pool and view from our room. Best hotel on riverwalk!
We loved everything about this hotel and how close it was to so many things including being on the Riverwalk. The only thing we did not like were the gay pride flags in our face every corner we turned!
Little gem in San Antonio, very convenient to walk to downtown, good value for money, nice Mexican decoration and the most of all "super clean" I enjoyed my stay at this small but nice hotel.
The location was excellent, right near the Alamo with easy access to the Riverwalk. The history associated with the hotel was fantastic. The colonial lobby and dining room were so beautiful!
This hotel was amazing! We were located right on the Riverwalk. Everywhere we wanted to go was within walking distance. Our room was clean. The hotel was nice. Breakfast was amazing.
We loved the delicious breakfast and very generous Happy Hour. The hotel was very beautiful and interesting to explore. Great location on the Riverwalk. Staff was very friendly!
Charming historic hotel. Didn’t eat in the restaurant but food looked good and very close to the Riverwalk. Rooms well restored, with nice new bathrooms.
