Spreading for hundreds of kilometres from the mouth of the Oslofjord, Oslo is the largest city by area in Europe and is liberally covered in pristine forests rising up into the outlying hills. South of the unassuming city hall lies a vibrant waterfront known as Aker Brygge, which in summer is full of bustling outdoor restaurants and bars.
For the prettiest buildings head to affluent inner-city suburbs of Frogner and Fagerborg, or admire the traditional Scandinavian wooden houses of Bygdøy and Holmenkollen. Monumental buildings include the Royal Palace which runs daily tours and the Akershus Festning, which is a medieval castle that also served as a military base and provides impressive views of the Oslofjord. Oslo City Hall, or rådhus, offers even more distinctive architecture and it is the location of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.
Nature is never far away in Oslo which is ringed by an archipelago of islands which are extremely popular in summer. Hiking, kayaking and sailing are all easily achievable within the city limits. Just as popular, are the many museums. The national Museum houses Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream and Viking Ship Museum containing long-lost relics from Norway’s Viking past.
From downtown Sentrum to the Oslo Airport Gardermoen to the stunning statues in Frogner Park, Booking.com has over 80 hotels and other accommodations available.
What a great city! I hope to come back again someday.
What a great city! I hope to come back again someday. Lovely people, lots of great walking areas. Excellent infrastructure for travellers (easy train transport from the airport to downtown); the tram was easy to take as a foreigner. Food was delicious everywhere we went. We were especially impressed with the Comfort Hotel Børsparken.

Oslo is the capital of Norway, but it doesn't feel like a busy city where everyone is in a hurry to go to work or study. There are several local museums to suit all tastes. The presence of several large parks and the option to go to nature by public transport makes Oslo an ideal city trip location for me.

Oslo was very nice- we went in March.
Oslo was very nice- we went in March. I would recommend to go more in the summer as a lot of activities were closed still and we had rainy weather. The city was very quiet, but also very expensive, so it is not a budget-friendly holiday destination!
The saunas were very nice- I would highly recommend. We also went to Well spa, a short bus ride away which was an unforgettable experience.

Such a beautifully clean and safe city.
Such a beautifully clean and safe city. So much history, creativity, design and art is evident throughout this city. I have never felt more safe in a city than I did here. I wish I had more time to enjoy the tourist activities. It is also a foodies haven, so many fabulous options. The city is quite walkable and transit seems like a great alternative. I did not encounter anyone who could not or did not speak English. The people were friendly. The only downfall, it is a very expensive city. The waterfront was my favourite place to spend any leisure time I had. Don't take a taxi from the airport if you can help it, there is a train that goes from the airport right into the central station in Oslo - apparently much faster, cheaper and more convenient. I will know for next time.
Great location with a few spots to unload luggage in front of the hotel. Staff were helpful and friendly. The gym in the basement was clean, spacious and had good equipment. The room was clean and comfy, with large floor to ceiling windows. The breakfast was what nudged our rating up to a 9. The breakfast room was large and airy. The breakfast itself was of high quality with so many options. We splurged on a 5 star breakfast at the Britannia in Trondheim later in the trip and both agreed that the Karl Johan was better.
The hotel is very well located, right between two metro lines and close to tram and bus stops, making it very easy to travel to Oslo's city center and to other city landmarks. Going from the hotel to the central station takes between 20 to 30 mins depending on the way of transportation chosen. The breakfast was really good, giving a wide variety of choices also for vegetarians or vegans , staff was very friendly and always willing to help. The room was big, clean and comfortable. I'd definitely book this hotel again.
Can't beat the location if you are using the station. Overnight stay between connecting flights so proximity to the station was important to me. So easy to find- exit the station to the south and it is right there. Plus easy to see key sites like the Opera house. Breakfast was great quality but then again, I found great breakfasts at all five of the places I stayed at during my Norway trip so I think the food standards in Norway are universally exceptional!
I have stayed in 9 different hotels during my trip to Norway, and I can say this one is the best. The rooms are spacious enough, modern facilities, you have sockets near the bed and you can turn off all the lights with a central switch near the bed, which is extremely comfortable. The breakfast buffet is excellent with plenty of choices, they can prepare special omelets and offer a good coffee. The location is very central, just next to Munch Museum.
The location of the hotel in the city center is excellent, so that all important city attractions are accessible on foot.
Metro, bus, tram and ferry stations are also nearby.
The breakfast is good and varied.
In the bathroom, there is a good and sufficient amount of toiletries.
For me, it is very important that there is an excellent water flow, a quick exchange of hot or cold water, and an excellent water drainage.
The room was small, but efficient. It's in a great location, but still quiet. I appreciated that there was a fan already in the room, since it was a little warmer than usual. The breakfast was WONDERFUL and I loved having a Nespresso in my room
I was in Oslo twice on my trip to Norway, and the second time I booked another hotel and I wish I had booked Astoria again.
Thon has the BEST staff!
Excellent location within walking distance of city centre and the sights. Airport train is only 7 minutes walk from the hotel. Stayed on two occasions and both rooms faced into centre of hotel so very quiet at night. These rooms are modern, very basic and small which is ideal for solo traveller for a couple of nights. The beds were comfortable and the shower hot and powerful.
We had an excellent time at Thon hotel. The staff was very friendly, the location was great (city center within walking distance), the gym is very well equipped and clean and the room was spacious and even had a kitchenette. The breakfast was very good and offered a huge selection for everybody. We would highly reccomend staying at this hotel.
The staff were helpful and were kind enough to pack breakfast for me as i had an early morning flight. The room offered a splendid view of the city. Centrally located. The airport shuttle stops right in front of the hotel. A 10 minute walk from the city centre.
The hotel is in the city center and very close to the train station. We could walk to the main street, to the Munch museum and other places of interest. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. Room was spacious enough.
The hotel was right in the city centre, really close to all main attractions. We also liked how minimalistic and clean the rooms were, the heated floor in the bathroom and the discounts at the restaurants nearby.
