Overall the nicest staff we’ve met so far in Mexico 😁 They could not have done enough for us
Beds comfortable
Delicious cocktails
Breakfast was fruit and croissant. It was also nice to have a bit of variety on the dinner menu to have a change from Mexican food. Although not the best food.

Our room was on the top floor and they had an amazing view of the ocean and the distant mangroves, a really cool spiral staircase, and a nice little cat named Selina. They also had a balcony right outside the room that was cozy and perfect for watching the flamingos and other birds fly in the morning. Nice clean pool too. -by the way, this was written by a kid.-

Right up in the middle of nowhere! Beautiful little waterfront town. Access to flamingos, fresh seafood and a very chill vibe. Bring cash, dress down, relax. Do not expect too much from this place or the people, but do expect to be wow-ed by the scenario on the water and the public beach areas, access to the freshest food and the friendliest smiles. 2-3 nights is plenty in this location.

Nice village, but when we entered the village by car on our way to the hotel we were chased by someone on a scooter trying to sell us a boat tour, which we felt was very inappropriate and unsettling. We booked a tour next to our hotel at Rio Lagartos Adventures because they treat the evironment and the animals they encounter during their tours with respect (no directly disturbing or feeding the animals). Beautiful sunsets, highly recommended visit.

We did not travel round town as we visited purely to to the river boat trip. We booked a last minute night tour. I must admit that we were extremely lucky that our guide caught a relatively medium sized crocodile (he himself was was surprised at the size when he grabbed it as he thought it was much smaller). The kids loved it and we had a great time, however I must say that we were EXTREMELY lucky to see one at night let alone catch it and bring it onboard. The guide also had lost hope in seeing our catching one. So if you intend to do this tour ask and ask again what the chances are, the tour operators never give any guarantees but 70% chance vs 10% makes a big difference. We had about 10% though they only told us this once we were off!!
We also booked day river trip which left at 7am this was also great fun and we same plenty of birds including flamingos though at a distance. I highly recommend the tour and Rio lagartos is definitely worth the trip.
We ate at La Majoritta restaurant. The food was exceptional and real good value for money. Be aware that there are only 4 tables, but I don’t think Rio lagartos gets very busy.
We also went up to The colorades, though I have mixed feelings about the place. Yes the lakes are pink. And they look pretty however to view them closely you need to pay 350mx /person to walk for 30min along man made salt lakes. In my opinion this extortion. We saw them from outside. From Rio lagartos this is a 30min drive.

We came with rented car to Rio Lagartos just for 1 night and it was too short. Next time we will spend in this small village at least 2 or 3 nights. Of course, there isn't too much what to do after the sunset, but during the day nature is really amazing.

The city itself is not very beautiful and there is no much to do in it, but you just need to rent a boat in the port to have a great day and admire the animals in the wild.
We managed to see: crocodiles, flamingos, pelicans, cranes, eagles, raccoons ...
I also recommend visiting Sendero Petén Mac !

There is an important bioreserve for flamingoes and hundreds of other birds as well as raccoons and crocodiles. We had an excellent tour guide. The tourist industry is developing there and we enjoyed meals out and coffee at nearby restaurants.
Rio Lagartos is a fishing village that is refreshingly immune to tourism except for nature tours. The location was excellent. Both Victor and Ariel were wonderful taking us on boat rides and nature watching tours. Ariel's English was pretty good and he was always available to help. I really enjoyed being with him. It's really close to the restaurants and the one next door has a fabulous sunset views. I enjoyed just sitting down by the dock and watching the water. The deck has nice chairs for reading.
We loved our stay here! The space and apartment were really modern, clean and well equipped. I loved that you could see the water from the room too, plus the hammock was lovely to relax on. It was the perfect place to relax. The hosts were really helpful and booked us a tour out to see the flamingos. He was excellent and both the accomodation and the trip made Rio Lagartos a standout stop on our Mexico trip.
* room generally looked nice
* there was no cockroaches so generally I'm fine with everything else
* when we asked for cleaning, this one time they did it right
* good location in the centre of town
* free coffe and water in the lobby
* we stayed in suite and there was well equipped kitchen there
* big and comfortable bed
* in our room there was a cool balcony, but it is only one in whole hotel
Clean and comfortable for a few nights. The staff was friendly and helpful. We loved staying in this fishing town. The hotel is very close to the water. It was nice to have the balcony space to lounge in even if it was a shared space with another room. It looked out onto a street view with the town square that can be noisy if there are events taking place (as it was when we were there).
Nice hotel with creative layout, cooling swimming pool, pier where we were picked up for a flamingo tour. Good food and close to other restaurants. Rooftop restaurant/bar with view of the ocean, local live music one hour daily. Personnel friendly, willing to speak Spanish desire our limitations. Nice town.
the location is excellent as it is right on the Malecon. the hotel helped us set up an amazing tour with a wonderfully knowledgeable tour guide for the next day. the patio in front of room is wonderful for relaxing in the mornings and evenings.
Well designed rooms overlooking the water and the malecon with small balconies. Staff very friendly and helpful, good ambience, delightful breakfast. Been to Rio Lagartos a couple of times and this is best place in town.
The hotel was gorgeous, located right on the waterfront with a gorgeous roof terrace to watch the sunset. The staff were super friendly and really helpful and we enjoyed a gorgeous sunrise boat trip during our stay.
The staff was super pleasant and helpful. We got there at night and had a nice dinner and rest before we had an early boat ride. We were able to walk to the boat launch and leave our car at the hotel.
the room itself is very quaint with a nice bed! we enjoyed many offerings of the hotel: the shaded parking place, the chocolate soap and shampoo, and the guided tour booked by the desk staff.
Friendly familie with a brand new hotel. A small but amazing pool and nice rooms. It’s close to the city centre. We were lucky: the city had a great fiesta going on. Sweet and authentic.
Good location, good size room with balcony, nice garden and pool. The hotel has a number of wifi connections, so we managed (but slow). The room was cleaned every day.
