Nasu is well known and loved by Japanese people.
Nasu is well known and loved by Japanese people. The Emperor has a summer house here as it tends to be cooler in summer. It’s little known by westerners and therefore is not catered to westerners.
Parts of Nasu are very beautiful and other parts are set up for families - eg the zoo and the Dairy farm.
There are some lovely restaurants and places to visit here but you really need a car to do it.

The Nasu Kaido is a famous and really scenic road that goes from the lowlands of Nasu town all the way up to the Nasu mountains, and it's beautiful to drive up - if you have a car. The road is a two lane highway that (in Summer) is very busy and not intended for bicycle or pedestrian use when you get to the uphill portions of the road, so be sure to use a vehicle or public transportation if you want to go further up it. The public transportation options are present - you can take the Shinkansen to NasuShiobara Station, then take the bus to the Nasu Mountain Ropeway, then take the ropeway to the near top of one of the mountain peaks and hike from there. It's a good venture, though if you try it on the weekend, be sure to check when the last buses operate, or else you might have to take a taxi.
Location is a little far (15 minutes from the nearest bus stop) if you walk but the hotel does offer pickup from Seven Eleven near the bus stop, which is great. They picked me up at night and also dropped me off after I checked out. I like their hot spring too. Not many people when I visited so I almost had the hot spring all to myself. They switch the male and female hot spring every other day so you can try both during your stay. I would definitely stay there again when I go hiking in that area during the season.
asked for a room with a view, upper floors if possible:: got a room without a view on 2nd floor, one below reception floor = entrance with parking. Outside bath, placed as after thought in a sinister looking corner under the first floor. Reception floor has a great round fire place with comfortable sitting arrangement. Despite rain and sudden cool weather no fire and Nasu is wooden area! The bottom futon is ripe for museum.
We stayed to be nearby Mt. Nasu for hiking, and at only 20 minutes away the location was great for us! The room was spacious, clean, and the private onsen and huge bed were particular highlights! It was very quiet though other people were also staying at the same time, and the overall atmosphere felt magical and beautiful. The owner was also very friendly and kind! Would definitely love to go again!
staff friendly and polite, I made the hotel reservation on the booking website, after completing the reservation I realized that the room was for smokers, I asked for a room change, they promptly moved me to a non-smoking room, The meal had a huge variety of food, the breakfast was also fantastic, I definitely want to stay there again
Spacious and cosy 2storey cottage in the middle of the wood. Nicely decorated on high ground overlooking the whole area. All the utensils for cooking and dining are provided. Great for family. I travelled with 6 this time and we cooked Nasu wagyu and drank sake every night. We had a great time and i would stay there again.
Really clean, great location (if you have a car), lovely and quiet, had everything we needed. The hosts were very responsive by message when we had questions. Some nice restaurants and a good supermarket within 15 mins drive. Easy to get to Nasu Highland Park, Nasu Animal Kingdom and the Nasu onsen area.
The onsen was a highlight - spacious and relaxing. There was an onsen day bed and sauna within and outdoor onsen pools to dip on. The hotel had a modern touch to it and feels like it went through a refurbishment. Staff were also polite and helpful to ensure a comfortable stay.
The room was spacious and had lots of storage space.
If you choose not to have your room cleaned during your stay, you can get a certain number of free bottled drinks at the hotel shop.
The hotel shop has a reasonable selection of souvenirs from different shops in the area.
The staff are very friendly and caring. The service is excellent. Facilities may be a bit dated but are kept clean and tidy. Private onsen is well decorated and comfortable to stay. Definitely recommend as a great choice to enjoy traditional onsen and meals for its price.
It is near the teddy bear museum. The view from the room is impressed and the Nasu five mountains is very beautiful. The dinner and the breakfast are both delicious. The hot spring for male and female will be change by day, so I could try this two in my this stay.
The staff were so nice and accommodating. Foreign staff was in charge of our stay it helped us understand our first ryokan experience better!
They gave us free transport to the bus stop, and on your way out they give you free bus tickets to nasushionara station.
The staff is very friendly and they catered to our needs. The hotel's facilities are excellent and it's perfect for families with kids. I really appreciated the welcome drink in the bar, freely opened everyday between 2-6pm with candies, snack, beer and wine.
the garden with the little lake is amazing to have, the roof had a window so you can see the night sky, overall, very relaxing stay and that is what we were looking for. also Nasu's top bakery/pastry/restaurant is two houses down~
The Dinner is very perfect look like the find dinning courses, beautiful and delicious. The onsen water colour as milk temperature is perfect. Recommended
