古民家民宿 麻の宿, hotel in Kotohira

Offering a garden and inner courtyard view, 古民家民宿 麻の宿 is located in Kotohira, 42 km from Kitahamaebisu Shrine and 43 km from Takamatsu Heike Monogatari Historical Museum.

The house is a classic style Japanese house with all modern comfort. It is great! Large kitchen. Large bathroom. Large dining room with cosy dining corner and table. 2toilets, 4 huge bedrooms, with tatami mats and beds. . They can adapt the bedrooms to the number of guests. Laundry machine available and kitchen and bathroom full with bottles and products that you can use. Fully equipped kitchen. We loved the place. All very comfortable, stylish and cosy. Located along a quiet road in the rural countryside between farmlands. We regretted that we only stayed there 1 night. We would have loved to relax a day at this property and done some nice strolls around the house. All was also very clean.

    Kotohira shrine was excellent.

Kotohira shrine was excellent. You have to climb literally 1000 steps to get to the top, but it's a cultural experience. There is also the oldest surviving Kabuki theater in Japan located nearby. And there's a park called Manno that has a winter-time illumination. We didn't get to see the illuminatio, but I've only heard great things. Maybe next year.

Kotohira-gu, the temple with the horses stabled halfway up,...

Kotohira-gu, the temple with the horses stabled halfway up, was awesome. There were so many beautiful things in the little stalls on the way. The climb itself was not easy. Not extremely hard, just not easy. We saw a lot of elderly people struggling and even collapsed at various points on the climb. They were being cared for of course. I can't ear udon noodles, so I couldn't try the lical specialty, but I was told of udon making classes that looked pretty cool. It's a nice country area.

The hotel was in a good location with free outdoor parking close to the entrance. The hotel seems very new with a well designed and comfortable room. The reception staff were friendly and attentive. There is a Lawsons next door, only wish that chain was throughout Australia. Also a large store across the road. The whole place exceptionally clean. Got a great night's sleep.

The facility was centrally located. The owners and staff were very accommodating. We were able to communicate adequately even though they didn't speak English and we didn't speak Japanese. The onsens were super clean and the water was toasty. We were impressed with our experience and would not hesitate to stay at the Takaraya again if we ever return to Kotohira.

It is absolutely beautiful, we stayed in a western style room and it's absolutely huge! It also had an amazing view of the mountain behind. We didn't bother using the onsen as we have tattoos but we walked around the hotel and it's so beautiful with many art pieces and sculptures. The breakfast buffet was also very delicious and the dining hall was beautiful.

I had the best stay - the location is really close to both the train station and Kotohira-gu, and the room was well appointed. My host made the stay amazing - he was welcoming, friendly and helpful, and he spoke great English so we were able to get to know each other over tea. I would stay here again.
