Ishigaki (and Taketomi island - a short ferry ride away) is (are) wonderfully peaceful and quiet. The beaches on Taketomi are beautiful and almost deserted. Getting around (Ishigaki) is by rental car and I cannot recommend Ishigakijimaarun Car Rental more highly (arunco.co). The owner -- who speaks excellent English - could not have been nicer, friendlier and was incredibly generous and helpful. I said my two nights were just right as it served as an introduction to these southern Okinawan Islands. To really retreat and get away from it all you might want to spend longer! Taketomi is tiny and I went there for one day and rented a bicycle.

Ishigaki island is a gorgeous laid back island.
Ishigaki island is a gorgeous laid back island. The local people were so friendly. It’s a wonderful place to explore the reef and nature of the island. Make sure you have google translate as it an be difficult to work out the menus. We loved the snorkeling trip, saw turtles, sea snakes and Nemo. Bana park is lovely to explore. So much to do here. We hired a car to explore the whole island.

Tip: 1) avoid the buses as most as you can! Bikerentals are awesome! Maesato beach belongs to a hotel but day guests are welcome, just follow the signs on the property.
Tip 2) Definitely take a ferry to Taketomi, rent a bike there
Tip 3) Taxi to airport is about 3500 yen
Tip 4) Find out when rain season is

Most of the island's attractions - shopping, restaurants, hotels, the port to access other islands and the airport bus - are within a two minute walk of each other. I didn't visit the attractions outside of the centre because I didn't have a car and the local buses didn't run frequently but I had lots to do nonetheless. Took a very enjoyable day trip to Taketomi Island.

The accommodation offered a breathtaking view of coral reefs with a lush jungle as its backdrop. We spent our days walking down to the nearby beach, enjoying swims and snorkelling adventures in the warm waters. Our host even took us on a tour where he showed us clownfish, adding a layer of wonder to our stay. If you're a nature enthusiast yearning for a tropical escape that connects you with the natural world, this place is an absolute paradise.

I liked that you can get around in short time and still have a big variety of things you can do. I was there in Feb and no watersports was possible for me as it was too cold. Went to Karibe for a walk and to Iriomote for a bike ride.

This is an excellent hotel and location for Ishigaki. The port to go to the other nearby islands for adventure are only a 3 minute walk away! Due to Covid and less travelers, the cost for a room now is about a 1/3 of its usual cost, especially for this time of year. Scuba diving on Ishigaki is excellent with a chance to dive with giant mantas if you are here especially in Sept and Oct (I highly recommend Prime Scuba Ishigaki for an all day 3 dive boat trip with an excellent lunch included...they know where to find Mantas ;)
Great isolated location on the north side of the island that is close to many great beaches.
Breakfast in the morning was phenomenal.
The property manager, Josh, was very helpful in planning the trip, giving recommendations and accommodating for different needs during the stay.
Beds reasonably comfortable which is rare in Japan.
When I left my phone, it was immediately mailed back to me in mainland Japan.
Excellent hotel and staff who cannot do enough for you. Exceptional food, 3 secret idyllic beaches ideal for snorkelling. Ocean view with balcony, hot tub. What’s not to love at this stunning location.! Ideal location to explore this idyllic and peaceful island. You will need a hire car to get the best out of your stay here.Exceptional food and service run by a lovely family.
Hotel was nice, breakfast was buffet with several options. Room was comfortable. I appreciated a lot the community bath, was very relaxing. We could rent bicycles and towels for the pool (bedroom towels not allowed). Bus stop is right in front of the hotel. Small restaurant/truck food less than 5 mins walk from the restaurant. Small gift shop with also drinks and snacks.
Great location at directly at the beach. Next to it there is a nice Café and a restaurant with local cuisine!
Garden of the hotel well equipped. At the beach you find some tents and chairs, very comfortable.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Staff speaks English very well!
It's about 4km from the ship port. 10min by taxi
for the price, it can’t be beat. breakfast was WAY better than the ANA Intercontinental Ishigaki. it’s def an older property, no real frills, but great view out the window. I would not stay here if you don’t have a car. It is far from everything and not much is around in terms of off site restaurants and such.
The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is right next to the bus terminal and in front of the ferry terminal as well. There may be some new rooms but ours was quite dated and I bet it used to be a smoking room a few years ago. Recommend it purely for the location.
Thumbs up all round for this quaint hotel, nicely situated to explore the island, in particular the northern part. Josh is so enthusiastic about the area and very knowledgeable. His advice regarding secluded beaches, areas of particular interest and activities was fabulous.
Cheap and conveniently located. Staff was a friendly person who helped me out to find diving places. People who stayed there seemed to be some long term residents as well as some guests. It has many capsule hotel-like partitions and you can enter anytime within 24 hours.
Very convenient little hotel next to the port and bus station. Very clean with washing machine available. Host and hostess very helpful, providing take away breakfast as we left on the early ferry. Would stay again.
Very spacious for what you pay. It’s a 10 minute walk from the center of town, and the nearest airport bus stop was like only 2 minutes away. Didn’t even break a sweat walking from the hotel to the stop.
Really good hotel, nice and relaxing. We ate one night at the Yakiniku restaurant the food quality and service was great. We had the buffet breakfast included in our room price and it was very good.
Lovely helpful staff! The hotel was spotlessly clean, great breakfast. Too bad the onsen was under construction when I got there.
Comfy beds and great bath/shower with lots of toiletries.
The stuff we’re some of the most friendly people I met. Everything was super clean and got cleaned everyday. Met nice people in kitchen area from all over japan and other countries.
Close to the harbour so easy to get ferries to the other islands.
Clean and very comfortable. Very spacious for a Japanese apartment. Well equipped Helpful owner
