Spacious rooms, good location and breakfast was fantasic
La Spezia is one of those typical cities of the Liguria Region where colourful houses cover hills and cliffs, providing panoramic views over the sea. Thousands of years of history and a heart open towards the sea have shaped the character of this town surrounded by the 'Cinque Terre'.
Located on the coast of the namesake gulf, its proximity to Genoa has greatly influenced its development and culture. Take a walk uphill from the harbour, and admire the display of architectonic styles in the Old Town. Some of the best hotels in La Spezia are located here, while elegant guesthouses and villas with gulf views can be found in the highest areas.
Must-see sites in the city are the 13th-century Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St George’s Castle. The ‘Sea Festival’ is organized every summer, and its highlight is the rowing competition ‘Palio del Golfo’, a race between the 13 villages of the gulf. Departing from the port of La Spezia, boats can take you to the enchanted ‘Cinque Terre’.
The harbour is a 15-minute walk from La Spezia Central Station, and Genoa’s Cristoforo Colombo Airport is 105 km away. While planning your trip, check out Booking.com’s accommodation deals in La Spezia.
We loved La Spezia. It is clean, pretty, with many good restaurants. It is easy to travel to all of Cinque Terre by train or ferry. Our hotel “Chiodo Luxury Rooms” was excellent. Our receptionist Michela was outstanding.

It was just the right amount of busy.
It was just the right amount of busy. We came from Rome so La Spezia was a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of Rome. The town itself had much to offer with places to eat, shop, and walk. I especially liked the wharf. There is a long walkway along the water front with benches to sit and enjoy the sounds of the sea. The reason we stayed in La Spezia was to see the Cinque Terre towns by boat, which I recommend if you are short on time.

La Spezia has many more options for restaurants than Cinque Terre - and the prices were better. We didn't really explore La Spezia as our focus was on visiting Cinque Terre. I am glad on the last night we stayed in town as there was a lot happening (fireworks and carnival).

A pretty town with a beautiful promenade by the sea with palm trees and garden. We got to see the local market which was quite fun and there were orange trees all over. So neat! And while you're there a visit to Porto Verene is also very recomended! Such a cute town and it you want to you can even take a boat tour around the two islands from there!

The value, proximity to Cinque Terre, Porto Venere and the train station as well as access to a wide variety of dining options was perfect. This property is located on a street that was foot traffic only with many shops and restaurants and only a 10 min walk to the train station and another 10 to the harbor. I would certainly recommend this property. Nothing fancy but was very clean and comfortable, perfect for myself and my family of 6. My wife and I shared a room directly next door to a room that our 4 teen and young adult children shared. Of course the main attraction of our visit was to see the Cinque Terre but we were very pleased to stay in La Spezia and to visit Porto Venere by a small boat. I would say Porto Venere is a must if you have the time. The old cathedral and castle overlooking the Mediterranean were super beautiful with a photograph everywhere you looked. There is a cemetery that also overlooked the Mediterranean. A cemetery I guess might be a strange place to find beauty but it was pretty amazing and would be a wonderful final resting place. In summary, yes, great place to stay.
We were happy with the hotel location in La Spezia, a 15-20 minute walk from the central station, a few minutes from multiple restaurants downtown, and also just a few minutes walk from the harbor. It was perfect to have a grocery store just around the corner since there was no breakfast available at the hotel. Very good that there was a small fridge in the room. We also liked the art feature of the hotel, with paintings in the room and various art in the reception. Very friendly staff.
This spot was easily one of the best and most comfortable spaces we stayed in during a month in Italy. The space was HUGE for two people, had full kitchen, laundry, and everything else needed for a comfortable stay. The bread and tea/coffee left was a nice touch. The location is a short walk north of the train station in La Spezia, with a few restaurant options nearby and a grocery store around the corner. Would highly recommend D.E.M.
