This my preferred solution for vacation: large house with separated bedrooms, but shared kitchen and living room
Here is a perfect example, you have all you need to cook, and we enjoyed a lot discussing with other guests.

Centre of Fludir has grocery store, a gas station and 2 hotels - all four located very closely across the street. So we could get full tank of gadoline to drive further and wr had really good breakfast in hotel, but for the evening got some food in the shop. We didn't spend much time there and sayed only for one night driving through from one destination point to anothes as we dind't find any interesting object to visit in this town.

Fludir is a small village/town along Golden Circle. Perfect to break up your road trip to take more time to explore more of the area. Our kids loved the Fludir park with giant bouncy pad and zip line. We loved the delicious, authentic Ethiopian restaurant -Minilik, just a few minutes drive from the B&B.

I have stayed in Fludir several times- there really isn't anything to see here (aside from the Secret Lagoon which is great)! Dining options are also pretty limited.
I usually stay to be close to other things I want to see- it is close enough to KEF and Reykjavik to make both easy drives and also very close to the Golden Circle and Gulfoss to get an early start and beat the hoards of visitors coming in from the city for the day.

The biggest draw to Fludir is The Secret Lagoon, a geothermal pool fed by a spouting geyser. The facilities are fairly new and clean... and the lagoon itself is "to die for," very warm and relaxing.
I would highly recommend staying at the small guesthouse located on site - Garður Stay Inn. There is a kitchen, living room/lounge area, information table and a good sized shared bathroom, but only 4 rooms, so in-season it will fill up fast. We visited just past peak season, so had the guesthouse to ourselves!
My only "negative" would be the lack of open restaurants in the area.

We had limited time in Fludir.
We had limited time in Fludir. We did the tourist thing at the Tomato Farm and had a delicious pricy meal, and picked up some groceries and fuel. It looked nice. The hotel restaurant was good and the Ethiopian Restaurant was being renovated and may be a good alternative in the future. The town is well located to be a base for which to explore many standard tourist activities and even more challenging adventures for those that seek more.
Rooms are comfortable and have a door to the corridor and a door to the garden. Beds and shower are fine. Two hot tubs in the garden are a nice feature. I liked that the hotel is set in small town, but there's not much to do, as you would expect in an Icelandic town of this size. There's a supermarket with ATM directly across the road, an Ethiopian (!) restaurant a bit further down, and we spotted a pizza truck at a parking lot. That's pretty much it. The Secret Lagoon is a bit further out of town.
Silke is very kind, rare these days if a host is this nice. Our room was warm and tidy, even the common areas were very clean and friendly, it is sensible the owners put real effort into hospitality. The kitchen is well equipped and clean with all the appliances, the provided breakfast is enough to start your day. You can also have the opportunity to chose among pillow options, like in a hotel, they had a "pillow bar". I recommend this accommodation.
The apartment is big, comfortable, clean and locates very well. You can go to geysir or gullfoss in 20 mins, also easy to reach the small shop, petrol station and some restaurants around Fludir. The environment is very calm. only a little pity that the weather was not so good during our stay, so we cannot use hot tub which is very special.
Super friendly lady at the reception & restaurant. Quiet and comfy rooms with a view located a doorstep away from the Secret Lagoon : a nice way to end the day before having a meal and a good night of sleep. The hotel provides you with a voucher with a discount to access this hot pool.
Place is right next to the secret lagoon which is nice, and also has a lot of parking place. Shared kitchen is very big and well equipped. Owner is very nice, also messaged us we forgot our phone charger and made sure to store it so we can pick it up when we'll be in the area again.
The apartment is beautiful and very spacious. Staff is friendly and helpful. Location was perfect. Restaurant next door, grocery across street. Perfect! Also there was a park on the backyard with a zip line and jump bubble. Give it a 10 for all that.
Beautiful, quiet and very peaceful location close to Fludir. Really nice place, clean, large living room and kitchen. This was the coziest, most beautiful accommodation on our 1 week trip around Iceland. Thank you so much. We had good time here.
We drove through a huge blizzard and got stranded on the road. We called the owner and she came and drove us to the cottage. It was very kind of her. We were 10 minutes from The Secret Lagoon. It was beautiful.
This was the cutest and most romantic hotel we stayed at in iceland. We enjoyed the top floor with the views and sunset, and hung out up there drinking wine and planning a great next day of adventures.
Lovely cabin on the golden circle. The cabin is well equipped and the hot tub was lovely after a day's sightseeing.
It's really warm and cosy. I'd recommend the restaurant in Hotel Fludir too.
Beautiful courtyard area perfect for spotting northern lights. Room was clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again in the future.
The location was great (and convenient for a stop by the secret lagoon next morning before the tour bus). The breakfast was great- included bread, yogurt, milk, jams, cereal, etc.
