Generally, tourist travelling to Stepantsminda do a day trip from Tbilisi and are not able explore the location much due to tour plans. But this location is definitely worth exploring more. The must visit places in this area are Gergeti Trinity Church, then on the way from the church there is Kazbegi Zipline which is 1.2kms long zipline and it cost 120 Lari. Then there is Viewpoint Terek valley 10-15min drive, after that there is Gveleti Big Waterfall which needs trekking. The Dariali Monastery Complex is must visit which is near to Russia-Georgia border. Then Ioane Natlismcemeli is another Monastery which is in Stepantsminda which can be accessed from the main market area towards the mountain. The most calmest and peaceful location of Stepantsminda.

Great place for hiking up mountains, wonderful nature to see. Gergeti monastery was an easy climb of about an hour. The village was small, dusty and quiet, not so much to do in November and not so many tourists. Simple and beautiful place with fresh air and silence.

We went to Kazbegi to see the Gergeti Trinity Church and Mount Kazbek, and were extremely fortunate with the weather - in November.
During our visit to Gergeti Trinity Church, the sun was shining at 15 Celsius in the air and just wispy clouds were in the sky. The next day snow fell on the slopes, and the temperature hit freezing point.
The drive ut from Tbilisi is something to be mindful of if you are easily stressed or inexperienced. We drove ourselves, and I am an experienced driver who has been driving all around the world.
You should set aside 3+ hours for the drive - and be prepared for a large number of semi-trailers heading in both directions. Be prepared to pass them when the situation allows. And be prepared for them to pass each other when the situation doesn't.
When you arrive in Stepantsminda, the town in Kazbegi where we stayed, you are at the mercy of the weather when it comes to what you can see and do. If the mist shows up, the view is gone.
On the road down, use the engine brake on your car - or else you might fry the regular brakes.

The scenery is breathtaking.
The scenery is breathtaking. The visitor centre on the main street is useful and friendly. You can drive up to the Church , iconic photographic opportunity.
We visited in September, not very touristy at this time.
Its a relatively small place with a couple of shops.
The drive up and backon the Georgian Military highway is not an easy journey, lots of lorries , you quickly learn to overtake them on bends.

It is a good get away if you are looking for hiking, good views and refreshing greenery. We enjoyed our stay as we were looking for exactly this. The weather at the end of aug/ starting September is a good time to visit.
Everything is amazing in this place. I was looking for a room in Kazbegi where I had a balcony with awesome view and this is probably the best guesthouse for it! You have the view of the Kazbegi mountain/Gergeti church and of the valley of the Militar highway, it's just amazing. Everything is new, clean and good materials. Much better than any other expensive hotel down the road. The hosts are always available for any question or help needed.
The most beautiful views of the mountains in Kazbegi can be seen from Hotel Axien. The hotel has both modern and wooden rooms, clean and comfortable. Around there are many necessary shops such as pharmacy, banks, cafes. They can also help you with comfortable transportation in any direction. The staff are very friendly and care about the guests' satisfaction. Thanks to each of them. My recommendation for this new hotel.
Kazbegi View Hotel truly lives up to its name! The scenic panoramas are simply mesmerizing, and our room was decked out with all the comforts we could wish for. The highlight, though? The local dishes served at the hotel's restaurant Tiba was divine. Some of the best meals we've enjoyed in Georgia! The staff's warmth and genuine hospitality made our stay even more special. We'll be back for sure. Highly recommended!

But the best thing was, Vako at front office, overall in our trip of Georgia, one thing that Georgia lacked big time is service but in this hotel, Vako is one man army. He’s really humble, hospitable and has excellent customer service mindset. Truly an asset for hotel.
Our stay at Hotel Jimla was marvelous, definitley the best place we stayed at in Georgia. A newly built hotel, four clean rooms with each having a balcony looking right at mount Kazbegi when you wake up, a very nice, modern common room, exceptional homemade georgian breakfast, and the best host we could wish for. Location couldn't be better. We were in a privileged location in Kazbegi facing the monastery at top of the mountain and having this amazing mountain right behind us as well where we did hiking!
On top of that we were right beside Rooms hotel. So we did all our meals there and enjoyed the view without having to spend much on accomodation.
The best hotel in the area by some distance. The views are spectacular and the facilities are what you would expect from a top notch hotel.That explains why you shell out a slight premium for this property. Lots of relatively cheaper options close by but no way you will get the same quality as Rooms Hotel.
Absolut best accomondation I got for this price in Georgia. Huge room, comfortable bed, very clean, super nice host and the perfect location to start the hike to Kazbegi glacier. Don't be put off by the outside of the house, the inside super nice.
