Very basic room booked with low expectations but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the room. Clean, modern and comfortable. Staff on reception friendly and helpful and the hotel was perfectly situated for my needs.

An area out of the city centre of Liverpool but still well equipped with plenty of places to eat out. Nice beaches and an area running in lower gear than the city centre. However the use of the frequent Mersey rail services make Liverpool attractions or those of Southport just a quick ride away at a reasonable price.

We went to the Volunteer Canteen, a lovely historic back street pub known locally as 'the Volly'. Lovely friendly place, recommended.
Lots of restaurants to choose from but we went to the Turkish restaurant The Sultan. Excellent freshly cooked tasty food, very reasonably priced.

Waterloo is close enough to the centre of Liverpool to make it a good place to stay without city prices. It is also right on the coast, with a beach which stretches all the way to Southport.
There is a watersports centre, and a nice play park by the lake.
There are a number of places to eat and drink and also some shops.
It has good transport links.

Waterloo is a brilliant place to stay.
Waterloo is a brilliant place to stay. The sea front and sandy beach is where you can see Anthony Gormley's Another Place statues and watch the ships travelling up river to the Liverpool port/docks. The local train stations and buses provide easy travel to Liverpool and Southport. There are some great independent bars/restaurants/cafes in South Road, which is very lively on Saturday nights if you want some nightlife but don't want to go into Liverpool and there's a community cinema, run by volunteers.

Lynn and John were fab hosts. The location was fantastic, lovely walk around the coastal park.
