Wonderful stay! Lovely place in a beautiful setting. We were super grateful that our room was upgraded to a bigger one with an amazing view. Really friendly and helpful staff. Delicious pub downstairs!
Our hotel is perfectly located with views of Lake Windermere, just a short stroll from the bustling village center of Bowness-on-Windermere and the boats that travel the length of Windermere, making...

Good location for Windermere, excellent rooms with good beds and showers, use of the pool and sauna included - these were nice but a bit small for the number of people staying there, some good art work too
This peaceful, family-run Lake District hotel is a 5-minute stroll from Lake Windermere. The Burn How’s rooms are all located in the private grounds, away from the main building.

We were there for a wedding at the local church but highly satisfied with our choice. The owners are a fantastic couple who made us feel very welcome and told us lots of the local history.
If makes such a difference when you are made to feel welcome the minute you step through the door.

We loved the views.
We loved the views. We ate both there and at another secluded pub just down the road. Troutbeck is easy enough to get around but you will need a car to get into Ambleside. If we were in the area again we would stay in The Mortal Man.

Very clean bathrooms and toilets.
Very clean bathrooms and toilets. Amazing staff, so friendly and helpful. Amazing breakfast and dinner - loved their veggie lasagna. Wifi connection a bit worse in places but with such beautiful countryside all around it didn’t bother me.

This hotel is extremely outdated and in need of a complete refurbishment, it is dirty and smells of damp.
The staff were pleasant but all very young and there didn't seem to be anyone in charge. The food in the restaurant was over priced and poor quality. £28 for a rib eye steak with chips but the steak was chewy and gristly and the chips were undercooked and hard! The price didn't even include a sauce!
It was clear that they knew the room was smelling of damp as they had cheap Reed diffusers and air freshners around to try and cover the smell which made it worse!
The only thing good about this place is the stunning view from the bedroom window but even that doesn't warrant the £225 the one night stay cost me! All I can say is avoid at all cost until they've gutted the place and started from scratch!

Troutbeck isn’t in Windermere so the listing is confusing and cost us a bigger taxi fare than expected. However, the scenery is absolutely stunning and there are beautiful walks around the hostel and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful location.
Beautiful location. The scenery is something else & so close to Windermere, there is plenty to see and do. Great pubs & restuarants & if you love relaxing, walking, hiking or cycling, you have it all around you. Stunning, a must visit.
Great location and Jackie has thought of everything to make your stay very personal...cold milk in the fridge for tea and coffee in your room. A fresh cake or cookie baked daily...breakfasts were amazing and put our next hotel to shame! The bed was very comfortable with beautiful soft sheets.
The house itself is in a very stunning village with walks from the doorstep and the view from all the rooms is spectacular. This is a great little find, we would gladly go back.
The location was excellent, the views across Windermere are awesome, and the Troutbeck valley is beautiful. Townend farm is a 10 min walk up the road and well worth a visit.
The food was good and great value with free kids' meals and a well stocked bar. There is also a well equipped self-catering kitchen.
We booked a 6 bed room with shared toilet and shower facilities. However, on arrival, we were given a larger room with ensuite, which was a nice addition.
It’s an absolutely beautiful place to stay, the rooms have been kept traditional but everything is modern and clean. The pub was lovely to sit in and breakfast was delicious with loads of options. Unfortunately we had an evening spa booked so didn’t get to eat our evening meal there but got back just in time for dessert! There are some really nice walks near the hotel that we didn’t have the chance to check out but would love to stop again.
The views from the room were amazing.
Lots of walks in the area for a novice or experienced Walker. Food was excellent and so was the Bier Moretti! The room was lovely and comfortable and the towels were big and fluffy. The staff were lovely and really friendly and helpful. We brought our 2 dogs with us and the entire hotel is dog friendly. I will definitely be returning again.
Immaculate throughout, beautiful setting.
Jaqui was very helpful, breakfast excellent and room was a great size. Lovely extra touch having cake/biscuits left in our room each day. Fridge in room which was great.
Ideally located, two pubs that you can walk to along with a cafe very near to the property. Would definitely recommend.
The place was clean and tidy, the beds were comfortable, the staff was very kind and attentive. The rooms were private, which we really appreciated. The location is good, but you need a car to move around, although this might be obvious if your plan is to visit different places in the lake district
Well furnished rooms with a theme of the Lake District mountains. Very clean rooms.
Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent service. Delicious food and drinks. Dog friendly with a handy hose outside for paws as well as several tasty treats/gifts for dogs at the bar. Will definitely be returning
The room and hotel was spotless. The room was spacious and well decorated with a lovely view, the ensuite bathroom was modern with a lovely shower. Breakfast and evening meals were great and the hotel is also dog friendly. We enjoyed our stay and would book again.
Lovely guest house tucked away in Troutbeck. Good location for Windermere but quiet and relaxing. The host was very welcoming and friendly. There were great views of the valley, breakfast was nice and homemade, rooms were clean and had lots of character.
Fantastic location, great walks direct from the hotel. Its a pub with rooms, so the beers are great.
Staff were worked off their feet but awesome. Fit us in for dinner when we didn't book on Saturday night as we were residents.
We loved our comfortable bedroom with fine views over Troutbeck valley, the warm welcome, excellent breakfasts, and generous provision of tea/coffee facilities with home-baked cakes each day and fresh milk in our own fridge.
The hotel is in a great location and is fantastic inside with oak doors and panelling everywhere. The staff are lovely and make you feel very welcoming. Food is gorgeous. 2nd stay here and will definately be coming back
Jackie the hostess was very hospitable and accommodating. Comfortable and clean room with nice view. Excellent breakfast. Very peaceful location 10 minutes drive from Ambleside and Windermere
Rooms were perfect and the beds were clean and presentable. The bathrooms had everything one requires to use the facilities. I like that we had great views of the hills around the hotel.
