When we booked this stay, we received a nearly immediate response from the host asking when we would arrive. I explained our travel plans and they helped with good information about the drive, how long it would take and that we would need to travel directly so we could make dinner service. This was a very welcome and unexpected piece of news that we needed. Thank you! Dinner was one of our best during our 14 days in Scotland. The breakfast also very good. We stayed in the "bunk house". It is clean, comfortable and separate from the main building. For us it was great. Bunkbeds worked for two couples. The shared bath was plenty big enough and very functional. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout.

Very friendly and helpful owner. Excellent breakfast provided, but you cook it yourself. Property was very clean, tidy and comfortable. Off road secured parking for my motorbike was provided. Its first time using a Clamping pod, would highly recommend. Plenty of nice facilities provided on the 10 acre site.

Reception was great - the manager Jan is friendly and efficient and helpful and runs a really nice set-up.
Communal kitchen and dining area was great. We met and talked with other cyclists and walkers in the evening.
The Heat and Eat meal option works really well and is good value if you're travelling light. There is a lot of other food for sale too: beer and soft drink, chocolate, noodles etc
Dormitory with 12 beds was really quiet overnight. Beds and duvets really comfortable.
A good locked bike shed on the site

Tongue is set in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Scotland. There are lovely views of Ben Loyal and of the sandbars of the Kyle of Tongue. There's a great 40 minute walk up to Castle Varrich which has fabulous views.

Having driven by car west coast section of Route 500 in a day, was beautiful but tiring , to stay over in Tongue(hotel) is a perfect base to complete north coast via Thurso and John o Groats and East coast sections. Then on home journey, followed middle section road A836 to Lairg and beyond.
Hotel in Tongue offers easy access to all routes (North coast, East and South )and with good road conditions in summer. Petrol and small store available.

Make sure you do the walk from the main road, down to the river, cross it and climb to Varrich Castle ruins. Good exercise after a day in the car and the most wonderful views. Dinner and breakfast at the Ben Loyal was really good.
The locals in the bar were so friendly. Many thanks to Fergus and Findlay!

lovely hotel and comfortable rooms, food overpriced on bar menu but was very good apart from king prawn starter wasn't king prawn and at 10.50 was very overpriced.
best breakfast we have on our nc500 journey so far.
not much going on round about but would recommend hotel to anyone
We loved staying here. The staff was exceptional, always very welcoming and helpful and our room was adorable. We had dinner at their restaurant that night and the food was exceptionally delightful. The hotel, while obviously still an older building with its quirks, felt more high end than we expected. There was even a complimentary tasting left in our room for us to guess and that was fun.
This is a lovely old world hotel delightfully managed by mainly I think local staff. The rooms were extra clean furnished with non hotel type antique furniture a little worn around the edges but full of charm and well looked after. We loved our stay hee and if ever driving the NC500 again will come back to this very room (Castle Varrich room). The food is delicious too.
Room was so comfy and charming - really loved the complimentary sherry and tartan throw. The restaurant served great food, and the front desk/ service staff in dining room were all so warm and friendly. The hotel is also well situated, stones throw from Castle Varrich footpath.
The cottage (Kildinguie) was clean, tidy, and well appointed. The location was exceptional with views of the Kyle of Tongue and wiithin walking distance of good pub and hotel, both serving good food. Kildinguie was readonably priced and we happily stay there again.
The whole hotel and room had warmth and comfort, the staff were attentive, positive and polite. The sherry in the room was a nice touch.
The outstanding element that exceeded expectations was the food, quality and taste was superb.
The Tongue Hotel has the feel of a historic property that has been kept up and given just the right amount of modernization. We only spent one night here as we were traveling through, but I could see staying here for several day.
Very comfortable with everything we needed. although weather could have been better. Able to dry waterproofs easily! Handy for local hotels and could do some walking from the door.
Lovely accommodations, nice food, friendly staff. Booking.com made a big error and overcharged me $324. Hotel management was most cooperative in helping figuring out the problem.
Super location. Great views over towards varrich Castle and the tongue causeway. Quiet and peaceful. The house is immaculate. Would visit here again. Oh And it's dog friendly!
