The Smugglers Hostel, hotel in Tomintoul

Located in Tomintoul, 26 miles from Balmoral Castle, The Smugglers Hostel has accommodations with a garden, free private parking and a shared lounge.

A fantastic and well equipped hostel which had plenty of space for our large family holiday (8 adults/8 children). The hostel was cleaned to a really high standard and was lovely and warm within a few minutes of turning up the radiators. While we didn't meet our host due to it being a community run hostel, all the information about our check in was provided well in advance to ensure a seamless arrival and check out. We will definitely consider booking again when we are next exploring the Highlands!

Les is a great cook and host! We hung out, laughed a lot, swapped stories and creeds till way past my normal bedtime...and the conversations were fabulous! Self catering accommodation three bedroom house or one bedroom cottage, hotel in Tomintoul

Offering garden views, Self catering accommodation three bedroom house or one bedroom cottage in Tomintoul features accommodations, a garden, and barbecue facilities.

Beautiful location, facing an expanse of highland hills from the terrace. It was lovely watching the birds in the backyard with a glass of wine. Very quiet and calm little town, with a few nice restaurants, a small store and a well-stocked whisky store. Fully equipped kitchen, comfy bed, and spacious apartment made it a very nice stay (despite the characteristic wet Scottish weather!)

An absolutely great place to get away from the monotony of everyday life The countryside around provides plenty of peaceful walks, skiing is also available at the nearby Lecht Ski Centre, who manage to provide skiing even when there is very little snow about ! The Richmond Arms Hotel is the place to stay. Provides a great base with fantastic ownership, service, food and drink.

Even at the height of summer, be prepared with your layered wind and waterproofs. As long as you have the correct clothing, the fine views to the Cairngorms and village walks can be enjoyed fully. There is plenty of bird life to view. The gift shop and clock restaurant are well appointed and worth patronising.

    Friendly village.

Friendly village. Lovely cafes and a wonderful gift shop Spendrift. I did some Christmas shopping there and it was only May!. Best bacon rolls ever at the cafe across the main road from the house. We ate out at the Richmond hotel which is dog friendly and we also had an excellent fish supper from a van which comes on a Tuesday late afternoon. There are lots of lovely walks around the village itself as well as others in the surrounding area which is beautiful . Ideal spot for a relaxing holiday.

Richmond Hotel also did excellent food. Sadly The Clock Restaurant across the road is not currently open due to Covid restrictions. Having been to Tomintoul three times previously I can highly recommend the available accommodation and the location in general.

We hadn't been to Tomintoul and the area north of Deeside before, but it's a beautiful area - a little softer than the central Cairgorms and with many nice waymarked walks in the Glenlivet estate. The Annex is part of a main house, but we never heard a peep from the owners while we were there. They did however give us a friendly welcome. The apartment is newly decorated and well equipped, including practical items such as a blanket to cover the sofa to protect it from our dogs. It was a really nice place to stay.

Facilities in Tomintoul are somewhat limited and the potential of the place has not nearly been exploited. It was therefore great to stay at Gordon House, where everything you need is supplied without needing to even leave the premises. Bed, breakfast, evening meal, beer, wine …. and even Whisky tasting. The food was excellent throughout, the rooms clean and comfortable and the company from the characters Les and John was a treat.

Historic inn in the highest village of Scotland. Lovely location, large room. Excellent dinner and breakfast! Martin (innkeeper) was friendly and the place was comfortable and cozy. Inn is on the square in Tomintoul but it is a quiet and peaceful village. Kept windows open the entire night and had no noise.

The property was exceptionally clean and a lovely mix of modern and traditional inside. I would thoroughly recommend booking. The photos really don’t do the property justice. Everything is really good quality. Tomintoul has some good places to eat and is a lovely, welcoming little town.
