The food was amazing, the breakfast first rate. The room was gorgeous and the staff made my stay even better, they were so warm and helpful. The bar was a lovely place to relax before and after dinner. A really lovely hotel.

The location was exceptional and the three days we spent there were very affordable. Along the Ninth River, it was quiet and the sound of water flowing wa soothing (there was also an electrical hookup for EVs). We loved watching the sheep and lambs across the river. The surprise was the owner is an Italian chef! We arranged to eat dinner at the hotel on our first evening after a long trip, and then we ate every meal there for three days! Each time was delightful. He grows vegetables in his garden and greenhouse, and everything was perfectly prepared. We highly recommend this hotel.

Friendly town, lovely meal in the Queensferryand Buccleuch Hotel, and excellent Chinese takeaway too. There were loads of cafes and a couple of independent shops, and well stocked Co op and Spar. Had a good walk in the grounds at nearby Drumlanrig Castle.

Lovely location for exploring south west Scotland.
Lovely location for exploring south west Scotland. Very close to Drumlanrig Castle amazing country walks and spectacular castle. Went to the beach at Carse which was great for dog walks. Thornhill itself had a lovely local pub with good valued food. Local bakery and butchers plus Co-op and Spar.

Thornhill is a small village in “the middle of nowhere.”
Thornhill is a small village in “the middle of nowhere.” This is what a local said to me. The scenery is beautiful with the rolling hills and the farmers fields. The village itself is quaint with impressive looking buildings.

Thornhill is a really quiet place but its in a great location for exploring the surrounding areas and makes a change from the overcrowded Lake District. Having said that there are very few other options in the town for eating and drinking.
I could not recommend this Hotel highly enough, everything was perfect, the room was impeccable and the food for breakfast and evening meals was incredible, all in a wonderful setting! The WiFi was fast and free and reliable. I stayed in a triple room, and it was luxuriously appointed and spacious. If I was ever staying or working near Thornhill again I would make a beeline for this hotel.
It was the best night away I've had in a while - something different and definitely worth it! The bed was like sleeping on a cloud, far comfier than I've ever had staying in a hotel! I loved the decor and getting up in the morning to birds singing and the most wonderful view definitely topped it off. Zoe and Tony were a lovely couple and very welcoming. We will be staying again!
Beautiful hotel - we were booked in for 1 night to celebrate our anniversary but loved it so much we stayed an extra night. The staff were amazing and really made it special for us. Food was fantastic probably the best carpaccio I’ve had outside of Italy. The room was really luxurious and the place is really dog friendly.
I would recommend to anyone and will definitely be back.
Very convenient holiday home: light and spacious and ideally located in the middle of a region with lots of things to do and see. The village of Thornhill is well equipped with small supermarkets, pubs, restaurants and even a coffee bar although the general atmosphere is average.
The cottage itself was just perfect. Everything was right there and so clean and comfy. Stayed over in Thornhill for a wedding so didn't spend much time in the cottage and didn't get to utilise the little garden. Would gladly stay there again if the need ever arose.
Lovely cosy cottage to spend Christmas with my husband. Well equipped kitchen and we loved the log burner. Bed very big and comfortable. Within good commuting distance of Dumfries for food shopping. Would highly recommend booking a stay here.
had a lovely stay & Elizabeth was superb host & made sure all was satsfactory. The period house is very comfortable & spacious with quiet relaxed atmosphere....very different from the city hotels & stopovers :)
Lovely location for walking or cycling. A few miles away is Thornhill which has some lovely eating places. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and the property is very clean and well equipped.
beautiful hotel. lovely deluxe double room fitted to the highest standard. The evening meal was great - good selection of vegan choices. the tofu starter was amazing. breakfast excellent.
We enjoy the peacefulness of the location, with no main roads nearby, lots of wildlife, and country walks. It is close to Thornhill so you can visit this town.
