Stayed here a week ago and decided to stay again as it was only a little over an hour to the Ferry heading back to Ireland. Great hotel and great breakfast . Also Cloe at front desk was very helpful in printing out birding pass for us.

We were more than pleased with our stay at Sandhill house. The owners, Peter and Elaine put their person touch into this lovely place that made us feel so welcome. The property was very well maintained with even more improvements in the works outside. The interior spaces were clean, nicely decorated, very comfortable, and inviting. The bathroom was quite large as was the sleeping area. We definitely did not feel cramped and had room for our various travel belongings. I especially enjoyed the very thoughtful "welcome" amenities such as tea condiments and glasses for wine; so nice that I felt quite pampered. Our room has a magnificent view of Toon and the sunset. It was also a very fun stay as we were well entertained by their friendly llama, Duke, and cute highland pony. Lastly, we enjoyed our classic Scottish breakfast in a nicely presented and elegant dining area and table setting. What more can I say? It was one of our favorite stays over the course of 3 weeks. Oh, and don't miss a meal at the very close Piersland Restaurant - we had an excellent meal there and service superb (book ahead).
Staff were friendly, breakfast was nice. The rooms were small and bathroom really small. No wardrobe The view from our bedroom was poor. The pictures that I saw online did not reflect the actual hotel. It really is more like a bed and breakfast or a basic inn.
The local beach and tourist attractions were lovely. Easy to get around by car.

It is a very small village but a good base for visiting Coastal areas and National Trust parks, Islands of Arran and Cumbrea, all within 15-25 miles away from the property. A selection of quality restaurants and pubs serving food just 15-30 minutes away.
Would recommend visits to both the Islands mentioned and coastal towns. If you love steak and have a BIG appetite, the Sorn Inn is the place to go. Check prices before you visit. The Failford Inn have a good selection of dishes to suit most tastes at a more affordable price.
Easy to get around as roads are quiet. Some are winding so take more care and don’t drive at the maximum 60mph on these roads.

Tarbolton is good for a stop overnight or even two nights.
Tarbolton is good for a stop overnight or even two nights. There is nothing to do so you would have to travel to nearby Prestwick or Ayr for any kind of nightlife.
Surrounding facilities such as Golf / sightseeing / airports are ideal / Glasgow is only about 30 minutes away.
Tarbolton is a very small village. The Black Bull hotel is perfect for eating.
