Fantastic facilities, charming house, beautiful surroundings and very helpful and friendly hosts making you feel at home.
The house is charming, has two lounge areas with real fireplaces, well equipped kitchen, big dinning area and an outdoor area. Place was nice and warm despite freezing temperatures outside.
The area is perfect for hikes and only a few minutes from the Glenshee ski centre.
Tim and Helen are wonderful hosts with plenty of knowledge and tips about things to do in the area.

Good family room, breakfast was great and made to order with help yourself extras. Easy walk into central town. Nice sitting room available with little pay bar for a drink. Great water pressure in shower.

Nestled amongst the mountains with paths and tracks leading all over what’s not to like? Sadly, the general facilities here have gone. No shop for example. One place did have a sign out for coffee, but there could be an opportunity here for someone.
Worth climbing up the Cateran Trail heading south to get stunning views looking down on the village.
Also visit the stone circle, old bridge and the church. Just soak up the atmosphere!

Cannot fault the scenery but you must be a keen hiker or golfer to spend time here. You are miles from anywhere and only one main road, the A93, which is awful. Days out mean a challenging drive on roads with steep climbs, sharp bends and constant gear changes. This can be tiring and a little frightening at night. Three nights was one too many here.

Beautiful peaceful setting, some lovely period features and very friendly staff, but needs a bit of work done on it. We had moveable heaters in our room, but still little chilly. Bathrooms could be doing with upgrade.

A great area for walkers or hikers & bird watchers & if you like peace & quiet.
The Wifi was not great where stayed. In these modern times most people need Wifi to keep in touch with family & friends.
Ballater is a nice place to visit & some good walks & well sign posted.
Nice cafes & shops there too. You need a car together there. Dunked is also a pretty place e to visit.

Go when the snow is there.
Go when the snow is there. We managed to get over the summit in fairly heavy now without 4WD but it was a bit dicy. If it is snowing and windy also the drfiting can cause a whiteout at a moments notice.
Glenshee is a worthwhile stopover while jouneying to/from the north.

This atmospheric castle hotel definitely lived up to its name - set amongst the beautiful Cairngorm mountains. A little down at heel but quaintly so. The staff were so kind and attentive including giving us a fun whisky masterclass. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.
We were not expecting haute cuisine so dinner was just fine and the menu prices most reasonable. All in all good value for money.
Lots of lovely walks in the surrounding countryside.
This place confounds an easy description. The kind woman that greeted us was wonderful. The apartment on the top floor was really lovely, with great views and lots of space to relax (assuming you aren't over 6' tall). The grounds around the hotel are absolutely stunning, and the available walks through the countryside (at all levels of difficulty) are an added bonus. A truly wonderful spot.
This is a fantastic hotel tucked away in a spectacular and remote location. There were a couple of roaring fires in log burners in the spacious entrance hall cum lounge which were very welcome on a damp day, staff were helpful, our room was quirky and individual but very cosy, food was excellent. A wonderful place to stay.
The hotel is a splendid Scottish castle hotel in a fabulous location. There are several fantastic walks direct from the hotel and there is an on-site golf course. The food was really good and the staff were very friendly and professional. The room rate for the hotel was very competitive.
The hotel is full of character and comfortably furnished. The outstanding feature is the setting, surrounded by a magnificent landscape. As outstanding was the high standard of cooking and the enthusiasm of the servers. The 9 hole golf course is a challenge, but we’ll worth the effort!
Amazing property at the Scottish highland. The shared bathroom is very clean and the rooms are spacious. The location is ideal if you’re planning to ski in Glenshee. You can rent the ski gear from the lodge owner too with a cheaper price compared to the ski center. Highly recommended
Breakfast and Dinner was very good with lots of choice in the menus. The location was fantastic as the hotel was originally the local lairds castle and tucked away amongst the hills with its "fairy tale turrets" adding to the attractiveness of the scene.
Location superb. Food excellent. Service excellent., all staff were efficient, helpful and friendly.
Hotel was very dog friendly, and as dogs are not allowed in the restaurant, they set up a table for us in an adjoining room. We felt spoiled.
Everything from the drive through the Spittle of Glenshee to get there, the welcoming staff, clean rooms and excellent food. Bartender, who was visiting a member of the staff and ‘ put to work’ along with his dog Jaygo was excellent.
The hotel is a lovely old building with lots of character, it was a nice treat form the usual hotels, it would have been nice to have stayed for longer to truly appreciate the experience. Great breakfast.
This hotel is located way off the road in a remote area, no road noise or city life to spoil the experience. Dinner and breakfast were included in the cost and were outstanding. Staff was very attentive
really good value for money, warm showers, basic but comfy rooms, very well equipped kitchen and close to glenshee skiing. Host was friendly and readily available, had an overall good stay
A very warm welcome from Eva. The hotel was in a most beautiful setting with huge grounds. Our four poster bedroom was absolutely beautiful. The breakfast was superb. Thank you Eva.
Really loved the immersive feel of this hotel. The exterior, setting, fires and old billiard bar table all contributed to a lovely experience. The staff were excellent.
