The hotel/restaurant was straight out of a Dickens novel. The feel of the place was very English. A movie set. The staff matched the vibe.

We know of shotley and the long drive down to reach the accommodation but our room was well worth the drive we loved being able to open the door onto the balcony and sit back and watch the world and sea go by. Well worth taking a bottle or two to sit back and unwind if you don’t want to use the bar but the bar and restaurant are both there and well worth a look

Room was great with super facilities.
Room was great with super facilities. Had balcony so could enjoy glass of wine with a river/sea view. Had dinner and breakfast in the pub, which were super. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Bear in mind it is very close to a working dock so there is some noise. Well worth trying to ignore for the relaxing break

Shotley Gate is a lovely quiet spot at the mouths of the Stour and Orwell where both rivers join the sea. It's perfect for walking or signing up to a spot of sailing, which is what we did with a company called Suffolk Coastal Sailing. The views of Felixstowe container port are amazing day and night; there are hosts of wading birds too, so bring binoculars. The walk to Pin Mill is lovely along the Orwell and we can recommend the food at the Bristol Arms on the river front in Shotley Gate.

Shotley Gate is a quiet village close to the river/sea - we actually didn’t go into the village as we visited the Suffolk food market ( excellent) & Ipswich, whilst we were attending a wedding. We decided to make it a two night stay as we hadn’t been to this part of England before.
