Seascale is a quiet friendly town with the most amazing beach and is close to some of the most stunning scenery in the country. Not too touristy, Mawson's the Ice Cream parlour is absolutely fantastic and a must visit location

A nice friendly little town with good views over to the Isle of Man or inland to the Cumbrian fells. Good railway links, although I didn't use them this time. Interesting proximity to the Atomic. Nice church and friendly community.

Seascale is a stunning seaside location, has a beautiful tranquil beach. Has the best place to get ice cream from at Mawson's honestly yummy.
People there are friendly and welcoming, it's got outstanding countryside you have eskdale, wastwater, ennendale, ravenglass on your door step.
Since it's out of the national park they are hardly any tourists so a lot quieter.

The Co-op local is the only general store with limited choices. The bakery only opens for a short period but is highly rated and helpful staff. There is also a Chinese takeaway which is decent and busy. There is also a pizza/burger bar. There is and icecream parlour at the Bailey lodge which I am told really good.
There are a few good pubs that do meals in the Gosforth area just 2 mile from Seascale and on the routes to Eskdale and Wastdale. Such as the pub at Santon bridge and Kellbeck hotel.
I would say if you are intending to visit that area then Seascale is only suitable for short stays.

As a town/village it was a one (or two) horse place with little to no real amenities for tourists...unless you like unpopulated beaches ! Only eatery was the Chinese takeaway...and a Co-op shop!
You would have to drive to St Bees for any other beach options (cafe), but similar beach..large car park and views, plus hill walking!
Good pubs in Gosforth but not much else!
Egremont was nearest point of civilisation. aprox (6 miles).
This is a work in progress. The lovely new owners took over relatively recently and obviously in difficult circumstances. They seem to be doing everything they can to bring the place up to a great standard but there is more to do in terms of decor etc. When it's open, the food in the restaurant is great. The location is brilliant for visits along the Cumbrian coast and into the western Lakes. We obviously liked it because we booked one night and stayed 3!!!
we had a wonderful time at 3BR Victorian apartment in Seascale. Apartment was cozy, beautiful and spacious for 6 adults and 2 kids. They have kept books for kids and there was a PlayStation that kids were able to play games. The kitchen has everything we needed for cooking. Bottled water have been provided too. I read appreciate that as I drink only bottled water. overall, this apartment was worth for money. We loved the place.
Roseta, the owner, is a wonderful hostess. She is so accommodating.
Due to it being off-season, I was offered a room upgrade (at no extra cost), which was wonderful. I was given a sea view room, which was extremely comfortable.
The whole building smells nice.... I know it sounds weird, but, go and stay there, then you'll understand......
Trust me, the "Westcliff" is a little gem in Seascale.
Were really pleased we found the Bailey Ground and Seascale. Really affordable and good availability compared to the Lakes but there is gorgeous coastal walking (train connections work well for that) and we also had a great hill walk in Eskdale via the Ravenglass heritage railway. Clean and comfortable room and really good breakfast.
Room spacious and clean, comfy bed, plenty of tea and coffee,,,best hotel shower I've used in years,(pressure wise),, restaurant food excellent quality (if not a little large) luckily they didn't do dessert or I would still be there,,will definitely return when next in the area
Amazing view from the room. Beach very close just over the railway bridge. Truly dog friendly hotel. A bit outdated interior but to an extent it added to the atmosphere. Rooms were nice and spacious. Recommend for dog owners as the beach was so nicely quiet.
Suuuper clean, really nice room, comfy bed, great kitchen with all the necessary equipment and super quiet place - it felt like we were alone in the hotel. The location is also good. About 20-30 min by car to Scafell Pike and surrounded by beautiful roads!
Twin beds requested, double bedded room supplied. Bed type request is not clear enough on Booking.com system, had not been noticed by hotel. Problem solved by providing us another room at no extra cost. I was impressed by this response.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Great location and close to the beach. Scafell Pike is 30 mins drive and for restaurants, cafes, pharmacy etc you can drive to Egremont which is 15 mins drive from the hotel.
The Cumbrian lodge was extremely clean and friendly.
The restaurant had a good menu that was value for money, it is some place I would recommend and we’ll be back for another visit .
The hotel is in a great location if you're working at the Sellafield site. The hotel team was fantastic! Friendly, attentive, helpful and thoughtful I think best describe the staff.
Stunning views of the sea, lovely location and easy reach of places to eat.
