It was a lovely little place, which had everything we needed. Natalie was really helpful and prompt when we had an issue and sorted it straight away!!! We loved the fact there were toys, highchair and cot there for our 18mnth old. It meant we didn't need to try and pack it all!! Very helpful!!!

The Red Lion Hotel, hotel in Rippingale

The Red Lion Hotel is a carefully refurbished 18th-century family-run hotel. It is the only hotel located right in the center of the picturesque market town of Spalding, Lincolnshire.

Location was good. Weekend street parking nearby was convenient. Room and hotel was clean, had more of a pub than hotel feel to it. Bed was comfortable, bedding and towels were good.

Black Horse, hotel in Rippingale

Located in Peterborough and with Burghley House reachable within 9.4 miles, Black Horse has a restaurant, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi and a bar.

I ended up at the Black Horse after being stranded at Peterborough due to an LNER situation - I tried booking hotels in town and they had run out of spaces so I randomly chose a reasonably priced one that was accessible - which ended up being the Black Horse. It looked very nice from the photos and lived up to this image - it's a gorgeous place - an old-fashioned inn with a restaurant, bar and rooms, beautifully decorated. The young woman on duty who checked me in (I can't remember her name but she was great) was extremely welcoming, reassuring and accommodating. The dinner was exceptional - the best gluten-free fish and chips I have tasted! (Coeliacs should check if the tartare sauce is gluten free though) It was great to be so warm and well-fed in such a nice environment after being stuck on the train and then a cold platform for several hours. I'd definitely recommend this place. My room was large and comfortable with space to work and a really good shower. They even let me work remotely the next morning teaching music online no bother! (In fact I got a round of applause from the locals in bar next door when I finished :D) Altogether very friendly, comfortable, amenable and relaxed place. The young bar staff were also great - relaxed, resourceful and accommodating. I'd definitely choose to stay here if I was in the area again, absolutely.
