FAQs about hotels in Milton Keynes

A Hub of Entertainment

Best known for its concrete cows and legendary roundabout system, Milton Keynes is just off the M1 motorway linking Birmingham and London. Its proximity to the latter triggered its development from village to new town in the 1960s.

Milton Keynes Village still exists, between tranquil Ouzel Valley Park and Willen Lake with its peace pagoda and watersports. Next door, Gulliver’s Land children’s theme park is bordered by the Grand Union Canal, whose banks have cycle and footpaths.

In the town centre is the aptly named MK Hub, an entertainment core near the train station. In addition to accommodation, bars and restaurants, it houses the huge Xscape complex, comprising the Airkix Indoor Skydiving centre, cinemas, and the UK’s largest indoor ski slope. Nearby are the shops of Centre: MK and Midsummer Place.

On the town’s outskirts is the National Bowl entertainment venue, and Bletchley Park, where the German Enigma code was cracked during World War II. To the east Woburn Abbey has a large safari park, while north-west is Silverstone, home of the British Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing F1 team are based in Milton Keynes, and the MK Dons are the local football team. The Open University is also headquartered here.

Of the many Milton Keynes hotels, apartments and B&Bs on Booking.com, most have parking and some have swimming pools.

I stayed 2 nights so I could spend a full day at Bletchley Park, which was amazing. However, please note that on this accommodation site the attraction called "National Museum of Computing" is NOT Bletchley Park., so please don't buy the wrong ticket like I did. I tried to visit the NMC after Bletchley Park, but they were closed at 3 pm when advertised as open till 5 pm. The tickets for Bletchley Park can be purchased on arrival, or directly from them online. The two cafes on site were handy for lunch and an ice cream mid afternoon, and were well priced. I would have preferred to have stayed in a hotel a bit further away however, and been more comfortable, as I still had to drive to get there so the proximity was less relevant. I didn't get to see other places in Milton Keynes, as it was quite confusing to try to find my way around by car, despite the GPS in my car trying to help me.

Milton Keynes has extensive and well kept green and blue...

Milton Keynes has extensive and well kept green and blue open spaces, including parkland, rivers, lakes, working farms and heritage sites, well maintained by the Parks Trust charity, who are working to manage them more sustainably. I enjoyed another visit to the excellent Milton Keynes Museum, which is in beautiful parkland and includes an eighteenth century farmhouse and displays of domestic interiors, workshops, toys, transport, telephones, a street of shops and an excellent cafe. Like the Parks Trust and many other local facilities it is largely run by volunteers. There is a wide variety of excellent cuisines from all over the world available in MK. I enjoyed meeting friends at Yaw's Supper Club at the Old School in Wolverton, with delicious Caribbean food provided by 'Better than Mammas', accompanied by Yaw's story-telling and Natasha's beautiful singing. (This has to be booked in advance). There also canal-side walks and a number of traditional pubs along the canal. We enjoyed a walk from Old Wolverton along the Grand Union canal to the Barley Mow pub in Cosgrove, where we had an excellent Sunday lunch. The City is very much designed around the car, with wide boulevards, but the red routes provide pathways for walking or cycling, separate from the vehicles. As a non-driver, the main disadvantage of the City for me is the public transport, but on this occasion I was fortunate with the buses. It is necessary to plan routes and journeys in advance.

I enjoyed a meal with friends at the Olive Tree Turkish restaurant near the hotel. I also enjoyed a local art exhibition in the Creative Void at the Old Bath House community centre in Wolverton- one of many community activities there. As a non-driver, I find the most difficult aspect of MK is the public transport, as the city was designed around the car and the bus service is unpredictable.

The best part of this trip was the hotel location amongst major shops, a variety of restaurants and the MK Dons Football Stadium. Parking is expensive but not if you stay at the hotel which offers a special rate of £8 for 24 hours. We stayed here for our visit to Bletchley Park which is only 7 mins drive away.

I have mobility issues and use a mobility scooter.

I have mobility issues and use a mobility scooter. My room was originally a standard room however I was moved to an executive room as there was a slight maintenance issue when I arrived which was not able to be fixed straight away so I was offered an alternative room which was marvellous. I had a wet room and plenty of space to use my scooter. I ate mostly at the hotel other than at All Bar One for lunch once which was very good and very nearby. I also went to the local shopping centre Midsummer Place which was very good and plenty of variety. There was nothing I did not like about my visit I can honestly say I would highly recommend it.

Great dinner at the bar and the brekky was fab. The pool was nice and the room was very comfortable. We had an issue with finding a place to park because of a Christmas party so Lauren at the front desk was very helpful with compensating our having to pay to park by giving us a breakfast voucher. I was initially pretty annoyed at having to circle around the various car parks surrounding the hotel after driving for a couple of hours to get to MK but this helpful bit on Lauren’s part went such a long way to righting the situation.

Great location :) simple to check in. Lovely welcoming staff Deon and Dorcus were great! ;-) who upgraded my room. I was nervous as I’ve never stayed before and thought it be difficult as it states online, some rooms are windowless. Future ristic style room and modern bathroom which was awesome! Easy to use key card to the room unlike some keys in other hotels that you have to swipe in and out to open. Will recommend this hotel to others. Nice to be in the heart of Central Milton Keynes close to everything.

Nothing. We couldn't stay at the house as it was located in a seedy environment - the environment did not reflect the photos online. We had to make last minute alternative accommodation arrangements in hotels in Central Milton Keynes. We simply couldn't stay at this Airbnb accommodation - this type of property in the environment it is located at should not be marketed to unsuspecting guests.

Friendly staff, good food choices, and the fun design of the rooms and the hotel - it had a great lounge area with workspaces, a pool table, games to play, a bar, etc. It created a really friendly and community feel, which was nice. Beautiful hotel, lovely rooms, very clean, friendly staff, excellent facilities. Great location near shops, restaurants and cinema. If your a fan of sports you can book a room with a view over the pitch, if there's a match on you'd get a bird's-eye view! The rooms weren't what I would call cheap but you definitely get value for money. Free warm cookies on arrival!!

A great rabbit warren of a house but a marvelous hotel! We didn't get to use the spa facilities and because it was deep in the countryside we really did have to eat at the in house restaurant. We would have liked to extend our stay but it was booked out! Plenty of parking and lovely gardens and surrounds. Within easy distance of Bletchley Park.
