The staff were exceptionally good and welcoming, I think the best we have ever seen in all the hotels we've stayed in. We had a beautiful room which was exceptionally clean and well equipped. Very happy with our stay.

The location was ideal as it was in the centre of the town, with all of the facilities nearby, including the castle, which was our reason for visiting Barnard Castle. The restaurant/breakfast room was very clean and the staff were friendly and efficient. We enjoyed the breakfast but the black pudding was rather dry and the poached eggs whites were not fully cooked. The cleanliness of the hotel, overall was excellent.

Middleton in Teesdale is a great place to visit.
Middleton in Teesdale is a great place to visit. It’s olde worldy & so laid back & relaxed. There are so many places to go see in every direction. Hadrian’s wall & Roman forts etc to the north, Durham city & cathedral to East. Barnhard castle & Yorkshire dales to south & Brough & Kirkby Stephen to West. Also the scenery around Middleton is stunning. Definitely one of the best areas of the country to visit & very little traffic.

Definitely worth a short stay in this lovely village - only...
Definitely worth a short stay in this lovely village - only a few miles from the more well-known and much busier Barnard Castle (which is also very interesting and a must visit for history buffs). The Teesdale pub has excellent food, and there are other options in the village for evening meals or take-aways.
Nearby is the spectacular High Force - a waterfall with interesting geology. A short, easy-to-moderate walk, with £2.50 entrance fee, but worth it!

Parking was at a premium, although no charges.
Parking was at a premium, although no charges. It was easy to get public transport into Barnard Castle, which is a vibrant place. High Force waterfall is nearby, on a lovely walk, also Pennine Way for walkers. The Forresters Bar/hotel allowed us to bring in fish and chips, when they were fully booked for evening meals. There were 3 coffee shops/cafes, only experienced The Teespot, very nice, soup and cheese scone.

Plenty of eating options from hotels, restaurant and coffee shops. Lovely trip to High Force waterfall and we walked down the river bank to Low Force, most enjoyable and helped by gorgeous weather. A good location to stay if wanting to visit nearby Bowes and Barnard Castle.

The hotel is beautifully decorated with lots of interesting bits and special touches. The location Is great, right in the heart of the village which has pubs and takeaways as well as some lovely little shops. The river is a short walk away and there's beautiful waterfalls a short drive away. The breakfast was exceptional, with lots of choice all served in a gorgeous dining room. We didn't want to leave. Claire made us feel very welcome and the whole place has a really nice atmosphere. Definitely would recommend.
After a long day driving through the beautiful countryside to the north, it was a pleasure to fall upon the teesdale hotel. The reception received was friendly and the village is a delight to walk around. We ate in the Restaurant that night and I can safely say that it was up there in the category of best food that we have eaten in a long while and at a very affordable price. The chef and his staff are obviously of a very high calibre
Tastefully decorated relaxing rooms in a characterful traditional building, in the village of Middleton in Teesdale. Parking round the back (best for more compact vehicles) and falling asleep to the sound of the river. Warm, friendly and unintrusive hosting, with a delicious range of breakfast options including lovely local produce. What a great stay!

Great view from this house over its colourful shrubs, up above the village, which is just a few minutes' drive away. Walks from the door. Very friendly and informative hosts. Superb breakfasts! Comfy room, huge bed, excellent shower & big fluffy towels. Very good meal at the Rose & Crown in nearby Romaldkirk.
The Teesdale Hotel is an excellent family-run hotel with a stylish bar and restaurant with great atmosphere. It's situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Britain with excellent walks along the River Tees or on the moors. Middleton itself is charming rural town with shops and cafes.
Good hotel in the middle of the village. As advertised - basic room, perfectly adequate for a single person on a cycling holiday. [some rooms might be refurbished]. Restaurant with an interesting menu, far better than the usual 'pub grub'; staff pleasant and helpful. Recommend.
Location was good close to amenities. Fish and chip shop and Teesdale hotel serving excellent meals "on the doorstep" Lots of stunning scenery and walks . Cottage was well equipped. The owners were very easy to contact and very amenable.
We would definitely re-book.
We enjoy walking, chose Middleton in Teesdale as central point to area we have not explored before.
We were not disappointed, fantastic scenery, hills, dales, rivers, waterfalls, lake's, reservoirs + Pubs & all other facilities in town on our return.
Very very helpful & friendly staff. Franck organised taxi for us in advance to get to High Force. We needed gluten free meal & they were excellent at explaining the options. Incredibly dog friendly!
