A lovely B&B. Gail is a charming hostess who really knows the area and had great suggestions for walks and places to visit. Our room was cozy and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent — cooked perfectly with a good selection and served in the home’s spacious dining room.

An amazing place! The bed was a bit firm, but that's my own personal preference and don't let that take away from the amazing ambiance and charm of this place. The food was also awesome and every staff member was super nice and helpful. They really made you feel at home without even having to try.
If you are looking for a place off the beaten path this is absolutely going to be it!

We were 3 friends looking for a traditional English pub in a small village to stay at near to a few local golf courses to try. The Benett Arms in Semley did not disappoint. Great staff, location and a lovey pub with very comfortable rooms/ The food and drink was excellent with a lovely outdoor space to watch the locals (including a donkey) go by. Recommend the local fresh milkshake dispenser and farm shop. We will be back.

Mere is ideally situated for trips around area, Longleat is about 10 minutes drive away, Stourbridge is near too and is worth a visit, Nice countryside all around this area, Mere offers ideal base for travel as well as some great places to eat, highly recommend the George for some great pub food with that little bit extra on the menu for seafood lovers.

The Walnut Tree was really lovely.
The Walnut Tree was really lovely. So pleased we were recommended it for our two night stay for a family wedding nearby. The room we stayed in had everything we required and was spotlessly clean, warm and had all the facilities we required, plenty of space to hang our clothes and drawer space. The bathroom had a bath and separate shower with complimentary soap and shampoo etc.The towels were fresh , fluffy and white. There was also a good hair dryer and a choice of teas and coffees, bottled water and nice biscuits on both days. The room was a good size and peaceful.

Lovely 16th century hotel.
Lovely 16th century hotel. Room and bathroom was cosy and clean. Good value accommodation. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. If we are in the area again we will definitely book there again.
We ate at the hotel a few evenings, The Butt and Sherry across the road twice - and joined in the weekly quiz evening -which is more of a locals pub and our last evening at The Walnut Tree to celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary! All three were good.
If we travelled to the area again we would definitely avoid Bath!! We spent an hour tying to get through on a Sunday afternoon

Would have liked the shower to be a bit hotter. Bitterly cold weather outside, needed to thaw out in a hot shower. Otherwise lovely. Breakfast great..

Mere a charming little town with good shops/cafe, interesting church, good walks for the dog and very friendly people.

Attractive small town on the A303, convenient stopping point...
Attractive small town on the A303, convenient stopping point to break up a long journey. Charming antique shops and wonderful florist/green grocer selling fresh, local produce. Lots of churches too and some interesting buildings.
The buffet breakfast included in the price was excellent , fresh fruit, yogurts, pastries and cereals. The optional cooked breakfast was also excellent, fresh local produce cooked to order well worth the extra charge. Karen the landlady was very welcoming and accommodating. The room was beautifully decorated and had everything you needed, including an iron and ironing board. It is situated close to Longleat and other attractions and Mere is a quiet village with a countryside feel to it.
Everything about this lovely hotel was just perfect. We decided to have an evening meal in the hotel which was well cooked, well presented and well tasty! We also had a full country breakfast in the morning which was also a very high standard.
The room was quaint in keeping with the age of the hotel, but all modern requirements - en suite, hot drink facilities, hair drier were very well catered for. Also excellent and easy parking!
Warm, welcoming and comfortable inn. The sleigh bed was very comfortable. The restaurant menu had very good choices. The food portions were generous and the food was nicely presented, tasted very good and was reasonably priced.
There was a decent choice of wines and beers to quench the thirst after a hard day of horse racing at nearby Wincanton.
I would definitely recommend this hostelry as a a nice place to stay.
We stayed for two nights at The Butt of Sherry - a very quaint pub in Mere. The room was very comfortable, clean and spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful. A generous and tasty continental breakfast was included in the price. On the second night of our stay we ordered an evening meal in the bar which we really enjoyed.
The room was brand new and very comfortable. It had everything you would expect. There is easy parking at the front of the hotel/pub. Despite any of my misgivings, the staff were lovely and very helpful. The pub garden is a nice place to sit.
The George Inn is an iconic part of the beautiful town of Mere. The new owners, Paul and Anna are doing a fantastic job of running this warm and hospitable county inn looking forward to coming back many times in the future
The town and hotel are very cute. The hotel has some interesting history. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. The breakfast was a full English breakfast and included with the room. The restaurant was also very good.
The staff were friendly, the food was good, with a varied choice on the menu. The room was very clean with a very comfortable bed, and although we were at the front of the building, the noise from the road was minimal.

Excellent location, just minutes from Stourhead and Mere is an interesting old place in itself. We had a very friendly welcome from Pat and the annexe is comfortable, well-equipped and homely.
A comfortable stay in a quaint old 17th century hotel - comfy bed, good breakfast, friendly staff - room has been refurbed since I last stayed - tasteful modern/retro shades of grey style.
We enjoyed our two night stay at the George Inn Mere. Our king room was very comfortable with a good shower. A lovely old Inn with lots of character. Much improved by the new owners.
