Beechfield House, hotel in Melksham

Beechfield House is a 4 AA Red Star country house hotel located near Bath, Longleat, Lacock and Stonehenge, housed in a striking late-Victorian country house set within 8 acres of beautiful grounds.

Location is fantastic being very close to Lacock Abbey and only 30mins from Bath, the pool is decently sized and the whole house is really wonderful. The gardens could use a little love but they're well kept and great for a little walk.

Sign of the Angel, hotel in Melksham

Sign of the Angel features a garden, shared lounge, a restaurant and bar in Lacock. Located around 14 miles from Royal Crescent, the inn with free WiFi is also 14 miles away from The Circus Bath.

To be part of Laycock was special, short walk to the Abbey in the morning. The old world charm must be tricky to maintain but it’s done so well. Comfy bed. Fabulous breakfast.

We only stayed the night, it seemed like it would of been a nice busy town at one time, it was a Saturday night and there didn’t seem to be many people out it seemed a little run down with empty shops but I suppose most towns are like that now

Melksham is a busy town whose main claim to fame is its close proximity to the historic abbey and village of Lacock and the short drive to the equally historic town of Bradford on Avon. It is also a relatively short distance from the M4, making a perceived ideal location for a stopover for those heading to the southwest. However, upon reflection, it may be better to consider other locations, particularly if planning an extended stay.

Melksham is a good base for touring the local area but the town is a little run down with no real quality shops. Quite a lot of traffic passing through the high street but there is a Sainsburys and Waitrose in town so easy to get provisions. Two nice pubs Kings Head and Market Tavern serving good food plus there are Indian, Italian restaurants and various fast food outlets. Also a Wetherspoons pub we went in for a drink but would avoid if we went to Melksham again

Plenty of shops, even more hairdressers (we counted 16!)

Plenty of shops, even more hairdressers (we counted 16!) and a bank with free withdrawals. The Tourist Information Office was great and with plenty of information to hand. Whilst the Kings Arms does have a restaurant, we thought it was a little pricey so we went exploring. There are plenty of takeaways inlcuing Thai, kebabs etc and a dine in / takeaway curry house. For us, the best place to eat was The Market Tavern, just a few yards away from the Hotel. Outstanding cuisine to suit all tastes, utterly fabulous service, a good range of Ales, Ciders and Gins and the food was served quickly. Plenty of walks to do around the town but if you're after a good night life then you won't find much there. Melksham has a Sainsbury's, Waitrose and "Pound" shops, Greggs etc. Overall a beautiful town and worth the visit.

Melksham is a fairly quiet town, a few pubs in the town, great as a place to stay to explore Bath & other historic areas, I looked up the top 10 places to do here, number 1 was the swimming pool & the other 9 were churches!!!! Enough said…

Some nice buildings in typical stone.Shops limited, which is perhaps not surprising with pandemic etc. Has a Waitrose so plenty of parking . Overall very quiet and not very interesting on a winter weekend! Lots of interesting places nearby for tourism eg Lacock. Good as a stopover certainly or possibly as a base for the area..( we were not doing tourist stuff this trip!) Can't really comment as a winter trip and did not eat outside the hotel.

The accommodation is situated in a beautiful location near to Melksham & is the perfect destination for a peaceful getaway to unwind and relax. Whaddon Grove House is faultlessly clean with rooms of more than ample proportion and all the facilities you would require. The hosts are friendly and attentive and always available for everything you need. This was our second visit, we stayed here last year. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend it.

Clean, large, comfy, very well equipped and beautiful. Not overpriced and a very convenient location to the wedding we were going to at the Conservative Club in Melksham. We loved our 25% discount at the Market Tavern too and had a yummy meal. The staff brought us some more sugar when we ran out. My fiancé loved the high quality tech products and we both loved the TV coming out of the bottom of the bed like a Sci fi movie!
