Around 15 minutes’ drive from Shaftesbury, Yew Tree View provides studio accommodations in the Dorset village of Marnhull, the inspiration for Marlott in Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the d’Urbervilles.

Beautifully present room with a really comfy bed, Carol the owner went above and beyond to make our stay great. Breakfast was lovely and it was nice to have whatever options we wanted and that she offered gluten free alternatives
The local Spar shop was friendly and had good fresh food.
The local Spar shop was friendly and had good fresh food. As a cyclist, the small detour of the Sustains route was a bit of a shame but not too bad. Worth it for the accommodation and it's tranquil leafy setting.

The village has a lot going for it.
The village has a lot going for it. It's location is very good for the northern half of Dorset. The locals are very friendly and happy to pass the time of day with visitors. The 2 pubs are very welcoming and certainly worth a visit.

We liked being near the end of a lane, so that there was no passing traffic. The hosts were responsive, friendly, flexible and helpful, but left us to do our own thing. We appreciated the milk left in the fridge for a cuppa. We liked the plenty of window and glass doors (the kitchen door nicely opaqued) for light and ventilation. There were net curtains in the bedroom/living area, for privacy when needed, but easily drawn back to enjoy more light and the owner's garden and the field beyond.
Our second stay at Yew Tree View, great value for money, well equipped, clean, warm, easy check in (key safe). Although compact, the kitchen has a small fridge, a two plate hob and microwave, plus plenty of utensils, pans etc so self catering is perfectly feasible - we ate in 3 nights out of 4. Marnhull is a lovely village, and the food at the Crown is great. Lots of walks nearby, fields rather muddy at the moment but that's hardly surprising given the recent rain!
Chris and Mella were fantastic hosts! Lovely and friendly and always on hand to ask any questions. The breakfasts were incredible, and without doubt some of the best hotel breakfasts we’ve had!
The B&B has a lovely homely feel with everything you might need to make your stay comfortable. Ample parking round the back of the property and within walking distance to plenty of amenities in Marnhull.
Best B&B we have found. It has a 4* hotel feel. The fixtures and fittings are high quality. Lovely, peaceful location. Chris and Mella are excellent hosts, nothing is too much trouble. Pretty gardens. Delicious home made jams and marmalade at breakfast. Very dog friendly. The dog welcome pack is a thoughtful addition to the stay.
There are no words to say how much we liked this accommadation. There are plenty of hotels that fail to offer anywhere near these facilities or feeling of welcome. It is advertised as a B&B, in which case it is the Rolls Royce of B&Bs.
Great find in lovely village, we were visiting family in Gillingham so this was ideal. Comfortable, well equipped, peaceful, all for the price of a budget hotel. Will definitely stay again.
