Lyonshall Lodge, hotel in Kington

Lyonshall Lodge enjoys a location in Kington, 28 miles from Elan Valley and 7.3 miles from Kinnersley Castle. There's a private entrance at the bed and breakfast for the convenience of those who stay....

A wonderfully comfortable and quiet cottage stay with a sumptuous breakfast that accommodated us vegetarians and powered our hike for the day! Isabelle was great and the night we stayed she kindly picked us up from Kington which we'd reached after a days' walk on Offa's Dyke and saved my feet as I'd rolled my ankle on the way! Super comfy beds and shower and an evening herbal tea was so appreciated. Lyonshall is about 45 mins/1 hour walk out of down along a stream, it was a bit difficult to find the right route the next day but once we did we joined back up with the Dyke path easily.

John and Jess gave me a lovely welcome, the room was spacious and clean. The bed is huge! And very comfortable. John and Jess were happy to give me an early breakfast as I had to get to a show. The breakfast was delicious! Using their own hens for the poached eggs. I would highly recommend this place!

Kington is a small market town minutes from open country...

Kington is a small market town minutes from open country side ideal for walkers looking for beautiful scenery and is in close proximity to the Welsh Marches and Offa's Dyke. If using your car to explore the surrounding area bear in mind it is rural and some roads can be very narrow and a bit scary for larger vehicles. An ideal starting position to explore other historic towns and properties.

A small town on a river but with plenty of facilities: shops, cafés, food market every Friday, gallery, walks, pubs, hotels and more. Character buildings and alleyways surrounding the town. A unique place. I had a delicious fish and chips supper in a lovely old pub (think it was The Olde Tavern) just up the road towards Presteigne.

We were glad to have this comfortable and friendly stop over as part of our walk along Offa's Dyke. After several nights of eating out, we enjoyed buying food locally and cooking a simple meal in the well equipped kitchen. We had an interesting walk round Kington but were also glad to relax in the lounge. There was a good range of information about the area and staff gave us helpful advice about charging our electric vehicle.

I stayed in Gladestry a small village about 15 minutes drive from Kington. In the short time I was there I managed a drive to Hay but was unable to park so headed to Kington - plenty of parking and interesting small shops. Gladestry has no shops or car parks but is an ideal place for walking eg Hergest Ridge. I ate in the Royal Oak pub in Gladestry. The food was fresh, home cooked - plenty of it. The hosts were very friendly. No public transport from Gladestry so a car or bike essential. Buses in Kington. I would avoid some of the very narrow , twisty lanes with few passing spaces.

We stayed over the new year.

We stayed over the new year. Plenty of walking, some great pubs especially The Old Tavern. Food and beer generally very good. 3 small supermarkets, and many individual shops. I have stayed there before, so it was lovely to be back.

A huge thank you to the manager of the hotel (Jana) for being so kind and caring. She touched my heart ,how lovely she looked after my autistic daughter. I cannot express how much that meant to me. I will be recommending this hotel to everyone. I wish Jana all the best and I hope the kindness and good heart she showed to us will return with the double !
