Lovely and clean and the bedding was excellent with a choice of hard and soft pillows. Plenty of hot water and the TV selection was good. The staff are lovely and very helpful. The breakfast was good with a nice choice and freshly cooked. The meals in the pub are excellent. Tea and coffee and biscuits were in the room. I indulged in a hot chocolate. We did not have a car as we had family shuttling us about. Location is nice but I think you need a car really to get about. A great place as a base for sightseeing in beautiful Durham.

Access to the spa was built-in the price and we enjoyed using the facilities at the Retreat which seemed new and clean. However, I'm not sure if the facilities can handle a high rate of guests. Went there mid-week and it was relaxed but I wouldn't book for high season.
The overall environment of the hotel was calm offering a relaxing experience.

Our stay was lovely and comfortable, the rooms are clean and well presented the staff friendly and helpful, although we didn't have any issues i know if we did they would be resolved. We stayed 2 nights, the food is good honest well cooked food, the breakfast is delicious, I must mention the Chef, he came across friendly and looked as he enjoyed what he was doing which showed in the food. we will be staying again, we recommend The Saxon Inn.
