On arrival the young girl at the bar (Did not see her name) was quick and efficient. She explained everything and showed us where to go. She then served us for dinner and is a great asset to your team and again nothing was too much trouble and even did an excellent job of upselling one of the specials as a starter. The food was delicious, great portions and quick. The inn is a gorgeous country pub but with some gorgeous touches that make it feel really comfy. Eg underfloor heating in bedrooms/bathrooms. Water in your rooms, super comfy large bed and huge bathroom. The open fire and relaxed, personal atmosphere was a charm. We would definitely come back again.

Everything was exceptional.
The food was amazing! We had a Sunday Roast when we arrived which was delicious and a great portion. The individual gravy boats were a massive hit as we all love gravy.
We had breakfast included in our stay and it's definitely a great breakfast. You can tell everything is made with top ingredients and a good variety on offer.
The staff.. wow! The service at breakfast in particular was amazing. We were constantly asked if we wanted anything else, any additional drinks etc. All the staff were polite and just super friendly.
The rooms were beautiful. Loved the decor and super clean.
Our toddler decided his favourite thing to do was put his shoe in the bin in the bedroom. Although we kept taking it out we didn't realize he did it again and the bins were emptied. We explained to the staff before we left AND THEY CHECKED THE BINS FOR US! We have been reunited with his shoe. I am so thankful for them even offering to check the bins, luckily it was the first one they checked. If that doesn't say enough about the staff and the service I don't know what will.
There was a lovely outdoor play area which our son loved. A little mini golf which he walked through but didn't play and it's opposite a reservoir to it's a beautiful location.
If we are ever up that way again I will not hesitate to make a return visit.

The room exceeded my expectations. Very clean and smartly decorated. Large and very clean bathroom. There was a microwave on the landing to heat up my dinner (which was unexpected). Plenty of free parking. It's out on a limb, but only a short drive from Guisborough, which has all you need.

I found this little pub gem on Booking.com as I needed a place to stay the night between Scarborough and Layburn in North Yorkshire. Ideally situated on the route between the two towns. Price was fab as was the whole experience. Bed and room were very comfy, very clean with a great pub varied menu. Staff really helpful and friendly. Will certainly visit again

Main thing for me - it's a lovely cou try pub just 300 yards from the station - so you can let the train take the strain for a short break instead of haviong the hassle of a long motorway journey. PLUS the Eden valley running east towards Whitby is absolutely gorgeous and not as famous as it should be. If you can imagine a railway line running up Wensleydale you wouldn't be too far off - but the Yorkshire Dales are infinitely more famous.
Beautiful house and well located for attending a wedding at Danby Castle. We had the whole top floor to ourselves and Charlotte was a great host. The room was beautifully presented and had a gorgeous bathroom and living space (all with a lovely view). It was spotlessly clean. We had everything we needed.and the bed was so comfy! There is a nice pub and a local shop just around the corner too. Plenty to do within a short drive and not far from Whitby.
We had a wonderful stay at Lilac Cottage over the Easter weekend while attending a wedding at Danby Castle, the area is absolutely beautiful. Nessa was really accommodating to us and the welcome treats on arrival were a lovely touch. The cottage is very well equipped, a real home from home with a log burner for those chillier evenings. We were extra lucky to see newborn lambs which were in the field next to the cottage garden. Highly recommend!
Location was idyllic for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors. The Duke of Wellington was as characteristic and decorated as you'd expect of coaching inn of the period. Rooms were clean and freshly furnished. The food was lovely and all the team friendly, engaging, knowledgeable and engaging. An added bonus was a nearby sandwich and coffee shop.
This place is absolutely beautiful! The rooms were spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean.
Charlotte was so welcoming and helpful. Myself and my partner stayed here this weekend as we were attending a wedding at Danby Castle, and Charlotte even offered to come and pick us up at midnight if we had any problems with our taxi turning up!
Sheila, Gerald and John were fantastic hosts. Room was clean, well equipped and warm despite the snow and -8°C overnight temperature.
Breakfast was tasty and nicely cooked. Was served in a little private breakfast room.
Would recommend as a place to stay if attending a wedding at Danby Castle.
Lovely location, very friendly staff, lovely breakfast and dinner. Twin room was very quiet, tastefully decorated & had a lovely bathroom. Had dinner in the hotel on both nights. Enjoyed the surrounding views and especially from the seating out at the front.
Lovely traditional cottage, spacey for a one bed, nice garden for sitting out on warm evenings, great location near Danby with bakery and Moors National Park Centre, also Castleton with supermarket, heaps of walks nearby plus Whitby and Esk Valley rail line.
The location is stunning - Danby is beautiful and if you are looking for a peaceful base this is the one. :)
sarah the host is a lovely lady and really accommodating, it was lovely to meet her, Ted the dog and the horses!
We stayed a few days when our daughter was getting married nearby. The Fox and Hounds were very welcoming to all the wedding party. The night before the wedding they provided a delicious buffet for us in a private room,
We met friends and family and the five of us enjoyed a lovely meal together.
The staff were very friendly, accommodating and the food and beer superb.
We have even been planning a return visit in the near future.
Pretty much everything at this historical building was terrific. The service, the cleanliness, the ambience, the food (oh, the food!), and the location (close to Danby National Park Center) were all exceptional.
Good location friendly staff a nice experience for a few days not a week long did prefer when stayed in the hotel last time around would definitely stay in the hotel again
