Chantry Hotel, hotel in Bury Saint Edmunds

Located in Bury Saint Edmunds, a 12-minute walk from The Apex, Chantry Hotel has accommodations with a shared lounge, free private parking and a bar. This 4-star hotel offers free WiFi.

Friendly warm welcome on arrival. Signed initial paperwork, given instructions for time of breakfast in the morning, keys to room and front door, and, where room located which found easily. Sumptuous elegant double bed and large light and airy ensuite with bath and separate shower. Non-slip mat supplied for the shower tray with cork board and towel when stepping out. Toiletries and, a good array of refreshments provided which were topped up daily as required. The breakfast room tables were always immaculate. Loved the array of condiments with assorted jams, toppings, fresh fruit, and cereals on the dresser. Delicious fayre from a diverse and plentiful menu. Happy, attentive yet unobtrusive staff came to take breakfast orders. Light relaxing lounge provided with a small bar. Noticed a small library. Other delightful details were the two golden throne like chairs in the upper hallway near my room. Take a look at the photographs on the left at the top of the first floor stairs - a testament to the family who bought the house and turned it into a most divine hotel. Notice the difference between August and September 1986 of the incredible building work achieved. Highly recommend.

The Abbey Hotel & Apartments, hotel in Bury Saint Edmunds

The Abbey Hotel & Apartments is consisted of of a Tudor house built around 1530 and a medieval merchant’s house built around 1350.

After a bit of meandering (on foot) to find the place, I was pleasantly surprised. It is an old building (Tudor?) but the room was spacious, the bed comfortable, the cotton linens soft, there were even robe and slippers in the room. The breakfast was good, the lady who greeted me and served breakfast was friendly and welcoming. Overall it was a great one night stay.

The Grange Hotel, hotel in Bury Saint Edmunds

The Grange Hotel, an attractive Tudor-style country house hotel, lies in Thurston in the heart of Suffolk. The hotel is set in its own secluded gardens amid open countryside.

Stayed several times in the last few months whilst working at the hospital in Bury St Edmonds. Nice rural location offering plenty of walks/runs. Very nice food, generally friendly staff. The larger rooms/suites (rooms 4 and 14) are very spacious and comfortable and there’s a lovely historic feel to the building overall.

How can Bury Saint Edmunds disappoint?

How can Bury Saint Edmunds disappoint? Historic place, old Abbey, wonderful Cathedral. I was there to visit Ickworth in nearby Horringer, where the Lords of Bristol Hervey lived. It is a National Trust site, Gorgeous walking trails. Well worth a visit. Suffolk is as beautiful as Yorkshire in my opinion. I am a Harvey (Hervey) descending from the same ancestors. Bury has great restaurants. Wonderful small town.

Bury St Edmunds is a beautiful Town with plenty of lovely places to visit. It has a very unspoilt, almost old fashioned feel to it. There are plenty of great Independent shops and also larger more recognisable high street chains. The Abbey Gardens are beautiful especially in the Summer time. You are spoilt for choice with the selection of cafes, restaurants and pubs to eat in. The Apex is a fantastic venue to watch a show in or just wander in and have a coffee.

Bury St Edmunds is a wonderfully historic English town with a slower pace than Cambridge. It’s definitely a really nice change from busy London. I would stay in Bury St Edmunds over Cambridge. Just take the train to Cambridge for a day and then come back to the calm of Bury St. Edmunds to enjoy your precious time minus the tourists.

Bury St Edmund’s is a very English town full of heritage.

Bury St Edmund’s is a very English town full of heritage. The Abbey Gardens and ruins are beautiful and well maintained. The town is full of small gourmet restaurants and quaint cafes. Giggling Squid restaurant is amazing! There are plenty of shops for buying gifts and a regular market on Wednesdays. You do not need a car to get around this town.

The hotel is currently up for sale, and is not staffed. However, clear instructions as to how to get into the hotel and our room were provided, and the room [a family one with two adjoining bedrooms] was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Free-standing bath in main bedroom, and lovely big shower in adjoining bathroom. Quiet and peaceful. Currently no bar / breakfast offered, but as we were advised about this in advance it did not matter, especially as the hotel is a very short walk from the centre of town.

Nice Hotel conveniently located just off A14, with plenty of free parking, but you must register your car number in reception. Easy 25 minute walk into Bury town centre. Staff were all very pleasant and friendly. The room was very clean, and the bed comfortable and for the price we paid, was, we thought, great value for money. The breakfast was good, a help yourself buffet and restaurant large and clean. We booked last minute but would stay again if in area.

Staff friendly and welcoming. Hotel is genuinely dog friendly and the staff set up a table for us to eat in the bar area. Food was good both breakfast and dinner. Ample free car parking. Bar and lounge area are very pleasant with nice furniture and decor. Hotel grounds are well kept and the large grass area is good for dogs. Hotel location is good for town centre and easy access to major routes to other towns and countryside.

This is a pub very close to the town centre - we were there for a concert at the Apex, and it's just a short walk up the road. The room was almost a suite with a large bed, a shower room and a small area with tea/coffee facilities, seating and wardrobe. The breakfast was very good with a wide range of cooked options, cereals, toast, etc. Live music on Saturday night was a bonus.

The room I stayed in was very comfortable with air conditioning. It was quite quirky/very original being on old stable. The food was excellent, especially the breakfast. It was close the the Abbey and town centre, which is beautiful. Full of character with friendly staff and locals drinking with their dogs!

The quirkyness. Friendly welcome, informal atmosphere. A large room (called a junior suite) with a separate sitting area. (But beware of the low beams in this mediaeval/Tudor hotel.) Good location, walkable to the town centre in a few minutes.
