Rafters at Riverside House Hotel, hotel in Bakewell

Located in Bakewell, 5.6 miles from Chatsworth House, Rafters at Riverside House Hotel provides accommodations with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar.

This booking was the happiest surprise we encountered on our time in England! While we knew we had booked a lovely hotel near our destination, the service was so exceptional that it quickly became the most memorable part of our visit. Zoe, Josh, Georgia, and Carlos made us feel like family. They were incredibly personable and accommodating to our group of 8 (sisters and mother!) and facilitated an incredible evening dining in their restaurant that will live in our memories forever. The food was extraordinary (we even asked that they bring out the chefs--it was THAT good!), the charming ambiance and location absolute perfection, but the attention to detail and genuine care of the staff is what made our stay a 15/10. We were all so excited to go to breakfast after the wonderful evening and the 3-course meal did not disappoint! And the morning staff were also lovely and caring. The rooms are each uniquely decorated and extremely comfortable. We were greeted with fresh cookies, waters, teas, and hot chocolate. The bathrooms have been beautifully updated and the beds were comfortable. We loved walking the property and town and would be thrilled to stay here again. Cannot recommend highly enough--it was the experience of a lifetime!

The property is actually in the beautiful village of Baslow, which I enjoyed greatly with its old properties, walks and amenities. These included a good bus service which enabled me to get to places like Bakewell - the busy hub of life in rural Derbyshire and about 4 miles away. Nonetheless a very attractive place to explore with old property and the River Wye flowing through. My answers to Section 4 below relate to Bakewell although my holiday cottage was in Baslow.

Bakewell and the Peak District has been our family’s Happy Place for 15 years! Just love the whole area. Busy village, with plenty of shops and places to eat, a lot selling local produce. A busy market every Monday. As an active family enjoying the outdoors, it is an excellent base to explore the surroundings. Lots of opportunities to walk, hike and cycle. Plenty of historic properties in the area, including the wonderful Chatsworth hall and gardens. Great places to eat, with one of the best Indian restaurants. An amazing part of the country!

There’s a little area for souvenir shopping and buying the famous pies and puddings and several outdoor clothing shops. There’s a co-op and a spar. A few pubs and 2 fish n chip shops. Not much to do in the evening. Good base for buses to Chatsworth, Matlock, Derby, Sheffield. Walking distance or short drive to start of the Monsal Trail. Bike hire at Hassops station.

The Cottage, whilst being very old, was perfectly clean & decorated to a good standard. The Beds were comfortable with good quality bedding. Everything was provided, the quality of the appliances was excellent in the kitchen, which ensures you have everything you need for a self catering stay. The welcome pack was very good. The smart TV & internet worked well. The cottage was exactly as described & provided quality, good value for money. The location was good with a short (up & down hill) to the town centre of Bakewell.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Rafters, the ground and house was so picturesque and lovely it felt as if we had stepped onto the pages of a Jane Austen novel. We had two rooms both with beautiful claw foot bath tubs, which are a must on a cold winters eve. Finally, the breakfast was spectacular. A full three courses, and even an vegetarian option to the full English breakfast which was the best I have ever had. Thank you to the staff for making our stay so memorable!

Superb hotel in the centre of Bakewell. Ok no parking at the hotel but less than 200m from a public car park. Room was large and immaculately clean. All furniture and fittings were of high quality and everything you could want (hairdryer iron etc) was in the room, and all working! Free High speed WiFi was available and the staff were more than happy to help, give out maps and printed directions for example. Comfortable bar and cafe attached. Cannot fault

Excellent location. Easy access to the centre of town. Bagshaw Hall is full of character and has a nice feel about it. The room was very clean and comfortable. Basically an excellent base from which to explore Bakewell and surrounding areas. Being able to park was a plus too. Having a kitchenette area in the room was very useful if you wanted a quiet night in. There is a great Co-op in town.

It was in an amazing location, right on the hassop trail, really easy and quick walk down to bakewell town centre. You are given a code to the building and a code to your room prior to arrival and it’s all very straight forward. The hassop station cafe and shop is really good too, the staff service is excellent and really good staff and very friendly
