Lovely breakfast each morning, we also stayed in for dinner one night which we all enjoyed, zero complaints from our party of 3. We loved our stay, very comfy beds/rooms, the bar area was lovely, we sat next to the real fire and had dinner, perfect end to the day after a long walk.
Breakfast was also very nice, good selection of food and quick friendly service.
Set in 2 acres of tranquil wooded gardens. The charming rooms have TVs and tea and coffee facilities, and many have breathtaking views of the valley and fells.
Highfield features great lake and mountain views and its own private car park. The beautiful rooms have private bathrooms and tea/coffee making facilities.

Comfortable interiors, fab location- bus stops outside, delicious food, friendly and attentive staff especially the kind South African guy who checked me in when I booked last minute and v late on Monday night.
Easy to get to shops in Keswick. Good food at the Lakes Distillery and Chesters near Ambleside. Good low level walks around Grasmere. A visit to the gingerbread shop in Grasmere is a must but watch for the traffic wardens if parking outside

Whilst no pubs in Applethwaite you can walk to Keswick cross country in 35mins or get the bus.
