The best stay of almost three weeks of travel. Great location, food and hospitality.
Extraordinary building, grounds and breakfasts plus a room with a large bathtub to kill for. Good walking trails just out the front door. Perfect in every detail.

Lovely location, very helpful staff, good food, comfy beds. The hotel is oldy worldy but that is all part of its charm.

We visited this hotel as we were going to Alton towers and it's really close.
I have visited before and absolutely love this hotel.
All the staff are helpful and very polite. During check in I was told we had a free upgrade to the bakeell room and it was absolutely beautiful. The views outside the room were lovely and the room was large and very clean. Can't wait to visit again.

Alstonfield is a great location from which to start local hikes to Dovedale and other local villages. It is also convenient for location a little further afield like Bakewell, Buxton, and Chatsworth, all about 30 min drive. Alstonfield has a lovely pub call the George, which is friendly and serves good beer. The church is interesting, and the village itself is small being set amongst farmland used for diary and sheep farming.

Such a quiet place, if you have never been be warned the roads are narrow and there is little to no mobile signal or internet.
Perfect for a technology de-tox break.
The local pub we went was inexpensive on beer but expensive poor food with a really long wait and very small portions.

Rural, quiet, peaceful, picture perfect, indeed so lovely I created several watercolors and ink sketches of the area together with photos to fully record and enjoy the stay. Views in every direction, great bird and wildlife opportunities. Absolute bliss!

We stayed at Milldale, a small hamlet, about 1 mile from Alstonefield, and easily walkable by talking the road in either direction from the cottage. Alstonefield is a small attractive village with a pub (The George). We did not make it to the pub, which is Michelin rated and for this trip we were quite content eating at home, in the cottage, or grabbing some lunch on our travels throughout the Peaks. If shopping was needed, then the best and nearest place to head for is Ashbourne, a town with supermarkets and some very nice independent shops.

The accommodation is in a really private and quiet area with a really pretty garden and lovely views across fields to the hills in the distance. Lots of wildlife to be seen and walks from the door down to milldale or to the village of Alstonefield itself which is a beautiful village. Also not far to drive to lovely village pubs too and can have drinks at the accommodation on your return.

We used this area for our base to travel to Bakewell, Matlock, and Sudbury where they had a few nices places. In Bakewell, we had a very nice lunch in a local pub and wander around the village to try the tart and cakes. In Matlock, particular, Matlock bath, we went to the Height of Abraham to go up at the cable car and have a good view of the Peak District. Then, in Sudbury, we visit a National Trust Estate House, the Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood. Again a nice place to go.
So many positives about this lovely hotel. The hosts were brilliant and absolutely couldn't do enough for us. We have some dietary requirements and they went above and beyond to cater for us.
The rooms are brilliant with artwork all over, including in the wonderful drawing room with a log fire and record player.
The location is also perfect for getting lost in the peak district, with miles of hilly countryside around on all sides.
Everything was perfect from start to finish.
We had a daog with us and the staff were so accommodating to the 'doggie' owners.... even a separate sausage served in a dish for them each morning!
Appreciating the trauma that hotels and the catering industry have gone through due to covid, this was perfect and way above our expectations..... well done guys!!
What a lovely stay, we arrived late and the host had waited up for us, we sat down in the living room with a lovely log fire burning while we waited to put our breakfast order in.
The hotel feels like a lovely big old house, so much charm and the room and bathroom were lovely. We really couldn't have asked for more.
This was our second stay at Stanshope Hall, and we would happily stay again! Naomi is a wonderful host, and the other members of staff made our stay really memorable. Best breakfast we've ever had at a hotel/B&B, the room was quiet and comfortable, and the location is perfect for the Peaks (especially the Roaches!)
Fantastic welcome with tea/coffee and biscuits. The hotel itself is full of character with a country-house drawing room available for guests to use. Good quality breakfast with plenty of choice. Spacious accommodation with both bath and shower.
The room was clean and light. The breakfast was very generous. The staff were very friendly, kind, and helpful. We do not have a pet but were glad that the hotel was pet friendly. A very pleasant stay.
Large, comfy bedroom.Well prepared breakfasts with plenty of choice and home-made preserves.Pleasant, helpful 'team'.Plenty of parking.Ideal base for visiting this lovely corner of the Peak District.
we were attending a friends wedding and this hotel was in close proximity. they catered for my husband who had food allergies well. bedroom was clean and bed was comfortable
