It was exactly what we were looking for, a comfortable place to stay with our dog within easy reach of Barnard Castle for the May Meet. It was easy to access, great comms from the manager, beautifully decorated, well equipped, and the dog had his own room (the kitchen!) Staindrop is a lovely village and the cottage had a pleasant outlook.

We were beyond satisfied with our stay at wayside cottage. Everything was perfect down to the minute details. I never met the hosts but I received a friendly message to make sure we had arrived and everything was in order. The hosts live in the village and aren't too far away if there are any issues. Also really enjoyed the added touch of complimentary homemade biscuits, tea, coffee, milk and even a bottle of wine! Facilities were excellent, the cottage has absolutely everything you could possibly need. I was surprised at how well equipped the kitchen was with utensils and kitchenware, various pots, pans, slow-cooker - the list goes on! The cottage itself, while quite old it is in great repair, the furniture and upholstery is all high quality and excellent condition. The bathroom looks brand new and I was relieved to find that the plumbing, water pressure and temperature was all working perfectly. The shower was easy to use and temper, you won't be missing your own shower at home! I didn't put a lot of research into the location and I was pleasantly surprised! Staindrop is a very quiet, clean and friendly village. There is a convenience store 2 minutes walk away with everything you need and the next town is 5 minutes drive away. The hosts provided endless sources of information and suggestions not limited to, the history of the cottage, Raby Castle, walking tracks and nearby amenities. It really was a home away from home, very comfortable, clean and quiet. No unpleasant surprises. The value for money is incredible and I'd definitely stay here over a Premier Inn or Travelodge! Big thank you to Jo and husband for the wonderful stay. :)

Nice scenic location just outside a small village but with amenities within a couple of miles and plenty of attractions within thirty minute's drive or so. We found the cottage spacious for six plus a dog, and found it well equipped for our needs. The upside-down layout gives really nice views from the lounge windows.

We wanted a quiet village for new year. Staindrop is bigger than expected, but very pleasant, with village greens and a stream running along the outskirts. We went to walk our dogs and there are loads of places nearby, although most are a short drive. The village itself has little in the way of amenities, but Barnard Castle is very close. The property is ideal, well equipped, nice modern feel and a good layout. I had no idea County Durham was so beautiful.
