Tucked away in the northern part of Yilan County, the rural township of Jiaoxi is one of Taiwan’s best-kept secrets. From the pristine Wufengchi Waterfalls to the undisturbed Longtan Lake, the town is framed by scenic natural landscapes.
Jiaoxi is known to be a good weekend destination, particularly for travellers in Taipei who flock to this town to experience its hot springs. You can make your way to any hot spring park to pamper yourself with a dip in the mineral-rich waters. One of the main open-air spas is Tangweigou Hot Spring Park, where you can soak your feet in fish-filled ponds and enjoy a glass of green algae beer. If you’d like to unwind in a natural setting, head to Jiaoxi Hot Spring Park Forest Furo – a quieter bathhouse with several wooden paths and foot soaking tubs.
You can easily reach this town via the Taiwan Railway to Jiaoxi Railway Station. Another convenient mode of transport is the bus with a direct line running between Taipei Bus Station and Jiaoxi. This picturesque route runs along National Freeway No. 5, passing through the 13-km-long Hsuehshan Tunnel.

It’s a great place for getting away from typical busy city life. There are many natural onsens ( hot spring) around which one can enjoy and being relax. The local food are terrific especially the roasted chicken 罋窯鷄,must try in Jiaoxi!

The free hot springs in the Jiaoxi Hot Spring Park and Tangweigou Park are enjoyable. Easy to reach them, right besides with many vendors and convenient stores where can buy some drinks, snacks. Recommend to bring your own towels and shorts. The hotspring is very warm around 40 degree Celsius.

When I booked the hotel because has Japan style onsen in and room and public. The room too small for superior double room but it was single room. Hotel include buffer breakfast and gym at 9 floor. Gym hour from 0900 - 2100. The public onsen from 0700-1100 then from 1500-2300. I requested gym hour open two hour early from 0700-2100. Because the original hour gym is not ideal time for guest to use it. The price for hotel too expensive because the Japan style almost same in Japan but not quite yet but charge same price as it was in Japan. Jiaoxi is onsen town and I believe there should be other hotel cheaper and offer the same service

Town filled with hot spring resorts. Also has two parks with free hot springs for feet. Small restaurant/bar area but most people stayed in their hotels. Hikes in the area but too hot for hiking in the summer months.

Whether it was our hotel manager or shop owners, people were not friendly. We went to a public hot spring spa, and it was overpriced and there was no water. It is not family friendly nor tourist friendly.
