About Bangkok

Including tips for the best time to visit Bangkok

Bangkok is undeniably one of Southeast Asia’s most energetic capitals. The city center is an exciting mix of old buildings, enormous shopping malls, and holy shrines that can take days to fully explore. Hunt for souvenirs in the Chatuchak Market or visit the shining temples of Wat Arun and the Grand Palace’s Wat Phra Kaew, considered the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand.

After the sun sets, Bangkok’s legendary nightlife kicks into gear. Take a walk down Khaosan Road, famous for its endless stretch of bars, restaurants, and street food vendors all packed together under a wild array of neon lights. Pad Thai is Thailand’s signature dish, but foods like mango sticky rice and “gieow”—a minced pork dumpling wrapped in wonton dough—are definitely worth a try.

Getting around Bangkok is part of the fun, whether you’re balancing on the back seat of a tuk-tuk in Chinatown, cruising past the floating markets on a long-tail boat, taking the metro or just going on foot. Also, Suvarnabhumi Airport is only 30 minutes away by train or taxi.

Thailand was absolutely the highlight of our experience.

May 3, 2024

Thailand was absolutely the highlight of our experience. Every single day was unforgettable. The elephant sanctuary in Krabi is something I relive every day and need to go back to someday!! Railay Beach is absolutely breathtaking. It was such a cool experience riding up on the longtail boat! The Phi Phi Islands live up their expectation. And Patong was so much fun. Bangkok was a great way to end it! Seriously, best trip ever!!!

Bangkok is a place that most travellers can never get tired of. It has everything - good food (street and upmarket), shopping, arts and culture and great boat trips on the Chao Phraya river and Phadung Krung Kasem and Saen Saep canals.

Love Bangkok!

May 1, 2024

Love Bangkok! As a female traveling independently I always find it a warm, vibrant and welcoming city. I use discretion as to where I go, but honestly you would never have to leave the area around The Shanti Lodge to have plenty to do.

I absolutely love this city.

April 30, 2024

I absolutely love this city. Busy, bustling, loud, hot, exciting. Bangkok has everything you need at anytime of the day. There is so much to see and do, no amount of time is enough here. Bangkok will always hold a special place in my heart and I cannot wait to return!

You can find pretty much anything in BKK, from temples, historical sightseeing and traditional theatre to shopping, clubs per any taste and drag shows. I love the vibe and the vertical diversity of this city, hope to visit many times in future. The easiest way to move around BKK is BTS and Grab (bike), as the city has heavy traphic jams, you won’t get far by car. Chose places to stay near BTS and you can easily get there directly from the airport. All BTS stations have elevators (sometimes you have to look for it but it's there), so even with luggage train is the fastest and most convenient transport. Plus, you get to see the city from above, while rididng it. Always carry long pants or sarong with you, otherwise you might not be able to get to a random temple on your way (you never know).

Would definitely have liked to spend a few more days in the City. Travelling to the sights via the river was an asset. Enjoyed the food courts at Asiatique which is easily reached just a short walk from the hotel. The experience of the varied forms of transport in Bangkok was an event in itself.
