Situated approximately 100 kilometres from Bucharest, the alpine city of Sinaia is renowned for its fairytale scenery and medieval castles. Dating back to 1695 when the Knight, Mihai Cantacuzino constructed his monastery in the Transylvanian mountains, it was the arrival of the railways across Eastern Europe that saw the town grow during the 19th century. Today, the city remains a snowy retreat for families in search of winter sports, hiking and traditional Romanian countryside.
One of the main attractions in Sinaia is it’s picturesque Transylvanian architecture. The most famous structure is perhaps Peleș Castle, also known as Dracula’s Castle, built by the first King of Romania, Carol l. Inside the renaissance-era building you’ll find art exhibitions featuring works by Gustav Klimt and silverware once owned by the Romanian royal family. Elsewhere, the Sinaia Monastery remains a must see landmark, perched amid the mountain landscape of the city.
There’s many things to do in Sinaia, from skiing and mountain biking to more cultural excursions. Head to the former home of Romanian composer George Enescu to gain a deeper insight into the region or spend an afternoon in one of the city’s many coffee houses. Elsewhere, the Franz Joseph and Saint Annes Cliffs or the cable car to the summit of the Bucegi Mountains offer awe-inspiring views of the surrounding scenery. Alternatively, modern Sinaia is now home to contemporary restaurants and nightclubs, catered to delicious meals and cocktails, the best being Club 798.

A beautiful mountain city, with fresh air, historical landmarks, public bus transport to the main touristic objectives, hiking trails, car cable to the mountain peak Cota 2000, clean streets, great architecture, nice design of the urban furniture. Places I liked most: Monastery Sinaia, Enescu memorial house, Ghica park, Peles castle Liked Alex and Wood restaurants. Caraiman hotel has a nice breakfast in lovely historical deco hall. It's easy to get around Sinaia - either walking or by public bus. Tickets were 3 lei per trip.

If you're a visitor that likes to walk around the town and not necessarily go on hikes, then Sinaia is very nice. Nice buildings, beautiful park, quite a few sites to visit, etc. It only has one major downside. With 3-4 notable exceptions - the 2 restaurants at Hotel International, Umami Burgers and (hopefully still) Bistro La Teleferic - the restaurants situated on the main boulevard, between Hotel International and the central park have atrocious price to quality ratios. It's the area with the most tourist traps per square km I've seen in my life and I say this having fallen into quite a few of these Sinaia traps. I definitely suggest looking for restaurants further away from the town center.

Peleş Castle, Gondola Sinaia, and a stroll in the nearby Dimitrie Ghica Park are must-dos. Lack of ethnic food choices, though. There is a good Indian restaurant, but no Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, or Mexican restaurants in Sinaia. There is a Benihana but other than its grill, its sushi offerings are limited. No ramen. Lots of places offering traditional Romanian fare, however.

We visited in May. There's really nothing to do there apart from visit Peles Castle. They basically roll the pavements up about 7pm. Wish we had stayed another day in Brasov and travelled in for a half day trip to see the castle.

Sinaia is a place to go for skiing maybe and visiting the famous Peles and Pelisor castles. Other than that, the resort is dirty, sad looking and very crowded. The air seems very polluted so you’ll not be getting that fresh mountain air you want. I would go through Sinaia again, but not to stay.
A beautiful city any time of the year.

A beautiful city any time of the year. We went during December and it was amazing, the decorations were beautiful, the city hall looks like a small castle and the trees were all with charismas lights. Beautiful place to stay and one can do a lot of stuff, visiting castles, taking long walks, plus there are plenty of places with good food.
