About Capri

Including tips for the best time to visit Capri

Capri, with its rugged cliffs rising out of the Bay of Naples, is one of the hotspots of Italian tourism.

There’s just as much to do on the island of Capri as there is around it. Stroll through the iconic Piazzetta di Capri to indulge in a bit of retail therapy at its upscale shops or grab a seat at one of its many outdoor cafés to enjoy people watching and celebrity spotting. You can also embark on a boat tour of the island, taking in views of the magnificent Il Faraglioni rock formations jutting out of the sea or stopping at famous attractions such as the Blue Grotto. Set aside some time to visit Marina Piccola too – it has a sunny beach with views of Il Faraglioni.

Capri draws on its rich cultural and historical heritage to attract visitors from across the globe. Hike up to Villa Jovis, where you can explore the remains of two ancient villas belonging to the Roman emperor, Tiberius. Closer to the centre of the city, you’ll find Church Santo Stefano that has an impressive baroque architecture, or head to Villa San Michele (Axel Munthe House) to see a sizable art and artefacts collection.

No trip to Capri is complete without a sampling of its fine cuisine. Pasta and seafood dishes as well as limoncello (lemon liqueur) are the highlights of the island’s cuisine. Caprese salad, stuffed zucchini blossoms and torta caprese (chocolate and almond cake) are some other items to try here.

Capri is beautiful but being destroyed by greed.

24 May 2024

Capri is beautiful but being destroyed by greed. Over-development and far too many people descending on the island from cruise ships. And allowing tour groups of twenty or more people to crowd such tiny streets is ridiculous. It starting to feel like an outdoor shopping mall. A real shame, as, geographically, it is stunning.

We loved the Boutique Hotel Room.

10 May 2024

We loved the Boutique Hotel Room. It was very Nice, and the owner Daniela, was very accommodating to us. We ended up arriving about five hours early and she was very gracious and allowing us to check in early. She even sat with us and helped us with many plans for dinner and finding taxis and the boat arena, etc..

1 May 2024

For archeology lovers, Villa Jovis is the biggest imperial roman palace remaining on the island, with a beautiful hike through the outskirts of Capri town up to the Villa Jovis, and a gorgeous park next to it, Parco Astarita, with breath-taking views of the sea. For hikers, you can hike along the western coast of the island from a lighthouse in the southwest (Faro) to Grotto Azzuro in the northwest, through diverse terrain of mediterranean forests, rocks and cliffs above the sea (sometimes scary), and ruins of old forts along the way. Chair lift at Monte Solaro brings you to a great almost full circle view of the island. Anacapri, the second town on this little island, has more diverse restaurant options relative to the chic Capri, with a short bus ride between the two.

We went in November so the weather was not great and many restaurants were closed. There were a couple options in Capri and a couple in Anacapri. Otherwise it was very pretty and a magical experience.

One more day would have been great.

30 October 2023

One more day would have been great. We loved walking and exploring the island. We walked over to the other side and down to the water. The walk back up was not easy, but the weather was perfect. We took a taxi over to Anacapri to see the Villa San Michele and experience that side and really loved it. Restaurants are fantastic, people are great and the sights and sounds are so unique.
