About Nusa Penida

Including tips for the best time to visit Nusa Penida

Despite Bali's booming popularity, Nusa Penida – the biggest of Bali's offshore islands – remains largely undeveloped. Instead of sprawling resorts and overcrowded sands, the tropical landscapes here still feel as though you have them all to yourself. On any given day, visitors are usually found lazing on secluded beaches, exploring coastal caves, hiking through virgin rainforest and connecting with nature.

Perhaps due to Nusa Penida's lack of infrastructure, beaches are the island's biggest attractions. Photo-worthy Kelingking Beach is especially famous for the dramatic cliff that hugs its stark-white sands and churning turquoise surf. The waters at Crystal Bay, on the isle's west coast, are much calmer and great for swimming and snorkelling. Farther south, Angel's Billabong is altogether different – a rock formation near Broken Beach that protects a natural infinity pool. If you're a diver, you're also in luck; Nusa Penida boasts some of Bali's best diving spots, including Toyapakeh and Manta Bay. While underwater, keep your eyes peeled for sunfish and corals.

Nusa Penida offers a handful of temples where you can catch a glimpse of Balinese spirituality. Pura Dalem Ped is among the island's largest and most important temple compounds for Hindus, who make pilgrimages here to pray away illness and evil. Housed inside airy limestone caves, Goa Giri Putri is even more unique, where Balinese people come to meditate among stalagmites and stalactites.

Nusa Penida is a quite place.

September 11, 2024

Nusa Penida is a quite place. Not much to do there apart from few cafes by the beach like Bubu beach cafe or the beaches like Kelingking, Broken and Crystal beach. If you are a peace loving person and not that explorative then you should stay here else you can stay at Nusa Lembongan where there are cafes and market streets and can travel on a boat to Nusa Panida to do a day trip.

2 days are good enough for Nusa Penida.

August 19, 2024

2 days are good enough for Nusa Penida. One day east and west nusa penida the other day. Diamond and Atuh beach are beauty and relatively less crowded. Tree house is generally too crowded with a wait time of 1+ hours in general.

The scenery is great, the environment is great, and the hotel is great. I'm willing to spend money on these things. But the municipal infrastructure is terrible. I don't know where my money is going. The roads are awful, full of potholes, very narrow, and it's dangerous when vehicles pass through.

I stayed in Nusa Penida for 5 nights which I think 3 nights would have been better. Snorkelling with the manta rays was absolutely amazing and the east island tour was lovely. The only thing that was difficult was most beach points means climbing the mountain staircases 😳. Crystal beach was beautiful and you can drive all the way down to it.

Arrival to the ports on the west coast was a horror show.

July 11, 2024

Arrival to the ports on the west coast was a horror show. No Grab on the island so you’re forced to pay high taxi cost (200k) Need your own scooter to get around, but traffic can be scary and winding roads. Avoid the busy west coast and stick to the quieter and arguably more beautiful east and south coast. To be honest, I wouldn’t recommend visiting, I think there are far nicer places in and around Bali that are easier to get to and around, and more beautiful. I didn’t find the stay worth the inconvenience. It felt like the island has grown in popularity but its systems haven’t scaled up accordingly. The west coast was full of trash and stupid traffic and the sights were not worth it at all. Food however was good throughout our stay, and people were friendly

Nusa Penida offers scenic beauty and nice cafe's and clubs to spend time. East Nusa Penida is better then west . Every sight seeing point charged entry fee and not worth it . Local taxi's charge exhorbitantly high price compared to Bali city. Too much hiking to reach the scenic spots or click pics for instagram,
