Imagine watching the blue waves of the sea with sand between your toes; walking along the palm-lined streets with stretches of rice fields by your side; relaxing in quiet jungle retreats and shopping in energetic local markets. All of these experiences packaged together can be found in a village on the coast of Bali, Canggu.
Canggu is a destination that offers something for all travellers. One of the best things to do here is to sit back, sip a cocktail and relax at one of the many black-sand beaches of the place. Test the waves of the sea by bringing out your surfboards at Berawa Beach. You can learn to or practice yoga here, or unwind with an Indonesian massage. A Canggu visit is incomplete without a trip to the iconic Tanah Lot. Perched on a rock, this temple holds immense cultural importance and is an ideal location for a photoshoot.
Canggu is famous for its delectable local foods as well as its varied global cuisine. Enchant your taste buds with the mixed flavours of Balinese nasi campur (mixed rice) featuring grilled chicken, beef curry along with sambals at Denpasar's Warung Wardani. Spicy fish satay or lilit ikan is charcoal grilled to perfection and is a fine balance of spicy and sweet. Indonesia's all-time favourite, Nasi goreng (fried rice) also needs to be on your list. Topped with a fried egg and served with chicken or beef satay, this dish has the heart of millions of food lovers.

was incredible, loads to do even if youre sober. great food places, beautiful beaches and loads of massage places too. super easy to get around as most things are in walking distance and even if the traveling is too far, booking a taxi or bike is extremely cheap. went surfing for an hour or two and it cost me less than £2.

Canggu remains a top spot after four visits over the past decade. It’s got solid surf for all levels and a thriving scene for healthy living, with tons of spots serving fresh, tasty food. The local eats are authentic and well worth trying. The vibe here is chill but energetic, with a community that’s clearly working on improving cleanliness. If you’re driving a scooter, be prepared for busy traffic and stay sharp—people make quick moves on the road. Overall, Canggu’s mix of surf, health, and cool atmosphere keeps me coming back.

Can't walk on streets you need a bike, dangerous to drive if you are not very experienced, the roads are dirty, with holes and very narrow, the sea is ok for surfers, sunset is great good coffee and restaurants and gyms not much green to see. Not like an exotic place at all, good night life if you are up for the DJ, long sexy dresses and fancy coctails. Again not an tropical paradise, too overrated.

23 August 2024
Canggu is an up and coming centre of activity in Bali. Development is happening rapidly and everywhere you look so don't expect too much peace and tranquility. However, it has a great vibe with a blend of good beaches – especially for surfers, or aspirant surfers looking for big waves – and a host of cafes, restaurants, world-class beach clubs and shops. The road infrastructure lags the growth and development and traffic is manic. Pedestrians take their lives in their hands in many places where scooters rule the roads and the walkways! Without a scooter, traversing the quite large expanse of Canggu from East to West or vice versa is time-consuming as most access roads run more or less south to north, and shortcuts are one-way only for cars. Another unfortunate consequence of the development and sheer number of people travelling around and lack of public bins, is litter – mostly plastic bottles – that adorns empty sites and roadsides. Nevertheless, vibrant Canggu has a special atmosphere and is somewhere you must visit if you are coming to Bali. The local people, as they are everywhere on this intriguing island, are the friendliest, most polite and helpful ever!!
