Quartier Européen - Orangerie
0.9 miles from downtown
Strikingly modern. This area exudes the cool air of diplomacy, its litter-free streets lined with geometric glass façades. As the centre of European Parliament, it’s not uncommon to see diplomats lunching between sessions in Orangerie Park. The park’s mini zoo and mini farm mean the diplomatic quarter is not strictly for grown-ups.

Strasbourg is the capital of France's Alsace region, and its proximity to Germany creates a unique blend of cultures. Its UNESCO-listed center, the Grande Île, features incredible medieval architecture, but the old town's centerpiece is the Gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame, with its stone gargoyles, astronomical clock, and stained-glass windows. The center is famously pedestrian-friendly, perfect to explore either on foot or bike. When night falls over the lantern-lit alleys, all lined with timber-framed houses, the city takes on a fairytale air.
Learn all about Strasbourg's rich history with a visit to the Palais Rohan – an 18th-century palace now home to three museums: the Musée des Beaux-Arts (Museum of Fine Arts), Musée Archéologique (Archaeological Museum), and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Museum of Decorative Arts). Don't miss the nearby Historical Museum, featuring exhibits on the city's early medieval days up until the founding of the European Union.
Strasbourg's magical atmosphere reaches its peak from November through December when the winter markets appear. They've been held in the city for four centuries and sell Alsatian Christmas decorations, artisinal crafts, and local specialities like "Kougelhopf" (a sweet bread filled with raisins) and Muenster cheese.

Magical place wandering around Le petite france area.
May 1, 2024
Magical place wandering around Le petite france area. Highly recommend the tourist trains (there are two) which both go from either side of the cathedral. 45 mins each circuit. Informative and interesting. Do the one through Le Petite France first as it’s the best. The second one takes you more around the city through university area and past historical german/nazi areas. Make sure to wandering around Le Petite France on foot also though esp around the lock area by the tanners house.

A beautiful medieval town with interesting architecture. The guided tour (which was offered in 12 languages!!) with the boat through the river was nice and interesting. People in general and personnel of the hotel, restaurants and cafes were very polite, smiling and multilingual (something extremely useful if you don't speak French). The famous cathedral was beautiful architecturally but somehow "soulless" and icy cold. The stairs to the top need excellent physical condition. The charge was different for some of us, for no reason. It seemed that the person who was responsible for the tickets decided on spot about the price (some of us paid 8 euros while others 5 euros. We were all the same age with no students...). Unfortunately most of the restaurants and cafes aren't local but Asian so if you want to taste the local dishes you need to search a lot.

Strasbourg is easily accessed by train, easily walkable, has wonderful restaurants, shopping and the people are very friendly. There is so much to see, to do and to experience. This little village needs a good 3 days to really enjoy all that it has to offer.

Strasbourg struck me as a vibrant city with many young people and many nationalities. I found it easy to walk around the city and appreciated the many different styles of architecture. There was no outstanding museum or building, but the overall impression was good.
The history of the city of Strasbourg was never ending!

The history of the city of Strasbourg was never ending! The old buildings, the beautiful views as well as the very helpful and friendly shop owners and citizens ensures that we will return to Strasbourg. We stayed at Hotel Gutenberg (right around the corner from Notre Dame) and very close to restaurants and shops.
One of the best places I have been to.

One of the best places I have been to. Notre dame is a must visit. Take in the beauty of the canals and stroll by. There are boats plying on the canal. Don’t take them. Walk is the best. People are very friendly. Beer is good.
