Old town
In the city centre
A mediaeval maze. Old Town is a tangled labyrinth of snaking passageways that hum with local bars. Grab a “caña” (small beer) at El Salvador Square, then dive into Seville’s illustrious history. The colossal cathedral and indulgent Alcázar Palace speak of competing legacies, as successive dynasties vied to put their architectural stamp on the city.

Macarena
1.3 miles from city centre
Tip-top for tapas. This residential district is awash with excellent eateries. Start off with an up-market appetiser at Bar Yebra, then wander across to La Pastora, which is famed for its fried fish. Work off the calories with a wander to La Macarena Basilica, and join devout locals as they murmur Hail Marys to the weeping Macarena Virgin.

Nervión
1 miles from city centre
New-fangled Nervión. This area’s been in a state of constant renovation for years. Its wide avenues are lined with office blocks, where sharp-suited businesspeople stride in and out. The mood changes on match days. Sevilla FC’s famously ebullient supporters fill the Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium with deafening cheers and jeers. Footy fans can’t miss it.

Triana
0.6 miles from city centre
Olé! Triana fizzes with folklore. It’s here that flamenco music took off, and no trip to Seville is complete without a visit to Calle Betis’ authentic “tablaos” (flamenco bars). To dig into Triana’s chequered past, go to Castillo San Jorge. Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition’s old HQ to have transformed into a museum about its dastardly deeds.

Los Remedios
0.9 miles from city centre
Roll up, roll up! Once a year, all eyes turn to Los Remedios, when Seville’s legendary April Fair rolls into town. Impatient locals have spent a whole year waiting for this moment. It’s a whirl of colour, as people meet, greet and eat in true Sevillano style. Dig out that frilly dress and dust down your castanets – it’s party time!
Places to stay from £26 per night
In Seville, not only is the weather hot and sunny for most of the year, but the city is bursting with colour. Think ripe oranges dangling from green trees, golden sandstone buildings adorned in blue and white tiles, and glasses of red wine served with Manchego cheese.
Known as ‘Sevilla’ in Spanish, this historic city is best explored on foot. Soak up the laid-back vibes along the banks of River Guadalquivir, or stroll along the footpaths of María Lucía Park to Plaza de España Square. Located on the park’s edge, this magnificent square flaunts a variety of architectural styles, and four bridges that represent each of Spain’s ancient kingdoms. You can hire a rowing boat and slowly make your way along the curved moat that runs beneath them.
The Andalusian capital is also home to Spain’s largest cathedral. Be sure to get a good look at the Gothic-style exterior before entering to see the tomb of none other than Christopher Columbus. And you can find peace in the neighbouring Alcázar of Seville – a grand and iconic example of Mudéjar architecture, with its beautiful mosaic-tiled interior and sumptuous gardens known for their cascading fountains.
Seville hums with energy at night, from crowded tapas bars to nightly performances at the Flamenco Museum – a gorgeous 18th-century building built on the foundations of an old Roman temple.

Sevilla is a very different Spanish city, larger areas to commune and eat outside providing a bustling fun vibe, with the river area a wonderful to wander around. Sevilla is a flat and easy walkable city with lots of wonderful tapas bars. The historical centre including the size and grandeur of the dominating Cathedral something to admire from all sides and Alcazar absolutely stunning, with more intricate decoration internally than the Alhambra, however the gardens don’t equate to Generalife. (Pre booking tickets a must for both). We fell in love with this city in our 24 hours and wished we had more time to embrace her culture and beauty.

Loaded with history, charm and an exceptional quality of life, Seville is an attractive tourist destination. We could have stayed two weeks and just enjoyed the Flamenco dances, the restaurant scene, the historical sights and just walking through the neighborhoods and sitting in the outdoor patios of all the cafes. It's so charming, you have to pinch yourself to remind that it is a privilege to be able to come all this way to enjoy it and that the residents put up with all of us tourists!

A magical city full of discoveries - at least one at every street corner in the old centre. And warm, wonderful people. If you're looking for a beautiful city brimming with life and history - whether just to get lost in or to enjoy spectacular sights - Seville is your place. Tips: instead of booking expensive flamenco theatre tickets ahead, try to catch some live on the street - in Plaza de Espana before sunset, for example. Casa Morales has some of the best tapas and Jerez wine in town at affordable prices, and is a cultural landmark in its own right. And the Giralda/Cathedral and Alcazar are the must-dos in terms of historical sights.

Seville is a wonderful and safe city with many places to visit. Architecture, palaces, cosy little streets. Plaza de España and the Real Alcázar are delightful. I think 2-3 days are enough to see the most popular tourist spots. Most beautiful places are within walking distance. Sometimes I used public buses - no problems at all.
Seville is a charming city with lots to see and do.

Seville is a charming city with lots to see and do. The main attractions are the cathedral and alcazar…and don’t forget to book the alcazar two weeks ahead. Since the alcazar was in some episodes of Game of Thrones, you can’t just walk to the alcazar and get a ticket anymore. There are lovely gardens to stroll through and the river is nice to walk along. Day trips to Cadiz and Cordoba by train are easy to do if you want to explore further. Don’t go in the height of summer as it gets really hot 40-45 degrees.

29 April 2024
There was so much to see and do we couldn't fit it all in. We loved the old town and tapas bars there. Everything was kept clean. We arrived on the Friday before the Copa del Rey on the Saturday, the supporters in the main were very well behaved and although there was a lot of drink going down and we were expecting for there to be a bit of a mess the next morning, but the street cleaners must have been there early morning because the areas were spotless. There seemed to be something going on a lot of the time we were there. There was a parade near the Setas de Sevilla on one of the days we were there and there was a lot of people gathering on the Sunday and being seen in their outfits for the Feria de Abril. We missed the start of that (at Midnight) as we had to go to Malaga by train the next morning.
