About Seville

Including tips for the best time to visit Seville

In Seville, the sunshine isn't the only constant: the city bursts with vibrant colors year-round. Ripe oranges dangle from green trees, golden sandstone buildings are decorated in blue and white tiles, and glasses of red wine are served alongside creamy slices of Manchego cheese.

This historic Spanish city is best explored on foot. Enjoy the laid-back vibes while lounging on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, or walk along the footpaths of María Luisa Park down to the Plaza de España. Located at the edge of the park, this beautiful square features a variety of architectural styles and four bridges that represent each of Spain’s ancient kingdoms. You can even rent a row boat to leisurely float down the moat running beneath them.

The Andalusian capital is also home to Spain’s largest cathedral. Right behind its striking Gothic exterior is the tomb of Christopher Columbus. The neighboring Alcázar of Seville is an iconic example of Mudéjar architecture, with its intricate mosaic-tiled interior, lush gardens, and beautiful fountains.

Seville has a vibrant nightlife, from its bustling tapas bars to nightly performances at the Flamenco Museum – a gorgeous 18th-century building built on the foundations of an old Roman temple.

Sevilla is a very different Spanish city, larger areas to commune and eat outside providing a bustling fun vibe, with the river area a wonderful to wander around. Sevilla is a flat and easy walkable city with lots of wonderful tapas bars. The historical centre including the size and grandeur of the dominating Cathedral something to admire from all sides and Alcazar absolutely stunning, with more intricate decoration internally than the Alhambra, however the gardens don’t equate to Generalife. (Pre booking tickets a must for both). We fell in love with this city in our 24 hours and wished we had more time to embrace her culture and beauty.

Loaded with history, charm and an exceptional quality of life, Seville is an attractive tourist destination. We could have stayed two weeks and just enjoyed the Flamenco dances, the restaurant scene, the historical sights and just walking through the neighborhoods and sitting in the outdoor patios of all the cafes. It's so charming, you have to pinch yourself to remind that it is a privilege to be able to come all this way to enjoy it and that the residents put up with all of us tourists!

A magical city full of discoveries - at least one at every street corner in the old centre. And warm, wonderful people. If you're looking for a beautiful city brimming with life and history - whether just to get lost in or to enjoy spectacular sights - Seville is your place. Tips: instead of booking expensive flamenco theatre tickets ahead, try to catch some live on the street - in Plaza de Espana before sunset, for example. Casa Morales has some of the best tapas and Jerez wine in town at affordable prices, and is a cultural landmark in its own right. And the Giralda/Cathedral and Alcazar are the must-dos in terms of historical sights.

Seville is a wonderful and safe city with many places to visit. Architecture, palaces, cosy little streets. Plaza de España and the Real Alcázar are delightful. I think 2-3 days are enough to see the most popular tourist spots. Most beautiful places are within walking distance. Sometimes I used public buses - no problems at all.

Seville is a charming city with lots to see and do.

April 30, 2024

Seville is a charming city with lots to see and do. The main attractions are the cathedral and alcazar…and don’t forget to book the alcazar two weeks ahead. Since the alcazar was in some episodes of Game of Thrones, you can’t just walk to the alcazar and get a ticket anymore. There are lovely gardens to stroll through and the river is nice to walk along. Day trips to Cadiz and Cordoba by train are easy to do if you want to explore further. Don’t go in the height of summer as it gets really hot 40-45 degrees.

There was so much to see and do we couldn't fit it all in. We loved the old town and tapas bars there. Everything was kept clean. We arrived on the Friday before the Copa del Rey on the Saturday, the supporters in the main were very well behaved and although there was a lot of drink going down and we were expecting for there to be a bit of a mess the next morning, but the street cleaners must have been there early morning because the areas were spotless. There seemed to be something going on a lot of the time we were there. There was a parade near the Setas de Sevilla on one of the days we were there and there was a lot of people gathering on the Sunday and being seen in their outfits for the Feria de Abril. We missed the start of that (at Midnight) as we had to go to Malaga by train the next morning.
